How did you pick between two venues?

So... for the past couple of weeks I have had it in my head that we are getting married at Houston Arboretum. I have been talking with wedding planners because I know I’ll need help as it is a blank canvas so it say.


I realized last night for whatever reason, I missed a message from Avant Garden. I looked at their brochure and it’s in budget as well. I wouldn’t need a wedding planner for this venue.
Both venues have a garden, intimate vibe which I was wanting. Once you factor in the cost of the wedding day planner and rentals, the price is very close. Avant- Garden does offer a bit more - open bar and food truck on site. (These things I was opting out for originally.) Houston Arboretum will allow for cake/punch reception. Avant- Garden has the ability to have either cake/punch or a full meal.
So, thoughts? How did you decide?
