How did you know which dress was "the one"?

I've been dress shopping for months now and found a lot of dresses I like but few that I love. Two dresses I've tried on recently are really standing out to me. One all my friends loved. I love it but I feel like I just wish it was sparklier, it also was one of the few dresses I tried on that...
I've been dress shopping for months now and found a lot of dresses I like but few that I love. Two dresses I've tried on recently are really standing out to me. One all my friends loved. I love it but I feel like I just wish it was sparklier, it also was one of the few dresses I tried on that actually fit and was basically my size (plus size bride here Smiley heart). The other one is gorgeous, and super sparkly but I worry if it's too sparkly. Also it was about 5-6 sizes too small (I could just pull it over my hips) and I have some massive cleavage in it. They said that when its in my size it will cover more but I worry about that. It's also only in the store and online in Ivory (apparently it's brand new) but comes in Champagne, which is more the color I want but I can't visualize it and worry that I won't like it in that color.

I worry that I'm people pleasing if I pick the first but then worry that I will regret picking the second if I hate it in champagne. I'm also worried that everyone is loving the first dress because it was one of the only ones I tried on that was actually in my size.

Oh also my wedding is 10-24-2020 so I'm stressing out that I have to make decision ASAP.

Thank you so much for your input! I definitely love the idea of finding a dress to check off those boxes. I just have to decide what’s the most important to me!

That sounds gorgeous!! I’m definitely not looking for traditional either! I’m glad that you went back and found the dress you loved! I know shops pressure you to “say yes”. I’m refusing to because I’m the type of person that needs to sleep on it and get many opinions too!

Thank you for the advice!! ❤️ I do think I’m comparing other dresses to the sparkly one, so maybe that’s “the one”. I’ve been feeling like there’s something wrong with me because I haven’t gotten emotional, so it’s good to hear I’m not the only one. I’m going tomorrow to try on some more so I’ll see I’m feeling about the other two then.

This is great advice!! I really love the advice of “if I’m unsure it’s not it”. I think that might be the key for me. I’m SO indecisive too, which is not what I need right now. 😂 I also didn’t have a clear vision of “the dress” going into shopping too. I feel like I’m forming it as I go. I’ve definitely tried on close to 50 dresses at this point and been to around 10 shops. I’m literally dreaming of dresses at this point. 😂

Thank you for this! Maybe I haven’t found “the one” yet. I haven’t felt like I NEEDED to buy anything yet. I guess I’ll keep shopping 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m about to start bringing bouquets with me. Or maybe I should drink before hand, because I’m an emotional mess when I drink 😂 who knew finding the guy would be the easy part?

I’m still waiting for that damn dress to make me cry. I didn’t cry when he proposed either. I actually started laughing! I WILL randomly cry at adorable packaging though sooo... 😂

Oh no I’m definitely NOT putting it off. Going to look at one of the two dresses again tomorrow, then another dress shop after. I LOVE the idea of adding a layer of sparkly tulle underneath!!!! I actually had this idea but I didn’t know if it was possible. I’m definitely going to ask them this tomorrow when I go back to try it on. Hopefully it doesn’t add a ton onto the price though. 🤞🏻 I think that might actually make that dress perfect!

I agree that having too many people gives me anxiety. I’m going to keep the group small next time. So many of the shops I talk to are basically like “you have to decide ASAP” and it’s freaking me out. Good to know I ACTUALLY have time! Thank you!!

Great point!! I didn’t even think of champagne making the details pop more. I also feel like champagne just looks better on me. Thank you for the advice!!

Your dress is so pretty and it looks great on you!! Maybe I should start looking at models with my body shape. I’ve been just looking at dresses on Pinterest and they are all much smaller than me. Then when I try on a dress I love on there I HATE it on me. This is great advise!!

Thank you so much for the advice! I’m going to try to feel pressured and just give myself the time to decide which dress is my favorite. Most shops are stressing me out about time!! Plus, my mom is also endless pressuring me to make a decision so that doesn’t help. Your dress to so gorgeous and unique! I’m glad that you decided to go with your gut and switch it up!

Thank you so much! That is so helpful because bridal show tell me the opposite and how I need to make a decision right away! I’m going to try to decide by the end of the year. Even if it means going back a few times.

It took 3 weeks for my 1st dress to Come in, and my 2nd dress is expected to come in in about 3 weeks. Go in with your timeline in mind, but make sure every dress you try on is one that you can get. Some dresses (fancy designer dresses) take months to come in, so definitely be cognizant of that.

Yeah that is basically what all the shops are telling me is it takes months to come in. I’m really hoping that’s not the case. I still have some time though, I guess just within the next few months. Just in case

Umm Retweet!!! I was a wreck because I had the women in my family and the women in his family with me. They barely know each other so I was stressed about them getting along and on top of that my grandmother was acting like a lunatic. I went into the fitting room to try my very first dress on and she came around the side and was TAKING PHOTOS through the curtain. Didn't even have the dress on. I was still half naked. Needless to say, after appointment number one, we went to a nearby Specs and bought a bottle of champagne/OJ and had mimosas in the parking lot. I was much happier after that.

You're welcome! it was the best thing I did for myself. The gown I picked actually was worn by a model on the site with my near exact body type, and she was a brunette. I really helped...funny thing was I didn't like the dress I picked on the website lol
