How did you include your child/children?

FH has a five year old daughter that I am of course completely in love with and vice versa. Initially I was thinking we'd do a sand ceremony and give her sand as well, but then we decided to keep it more simple, and I had liked the idea of whispering an extra promise to each other after we've said...

Initially I was thinking we'd do a sand ceremony and give her sand as well, but then we decided to keep it more simple, and I had liked the idea of whispering an extra promise to each other after we've said our "I Do"s. So I'm pretty sure we'll do whisper promises between the three of us instead of just FH and I...but I'm curious, what did the rest of you with children/attended weddings with children do to include the kids in the wedding and make them feel more like a family uniting than just two people?

Our son is 1 1/2 so he is still pretty young. we are not having a bridal party so he is best man/ring bearer/escort lol he will walk both of our mothers down the aisle before my dad and I. during the ceremony we are kind of leaving it up to chance since he is so young we do not know how he will behave at the given time. if he wants to stand with us we will let him otherwise he will sit with the moms. Also during the reception we may do a bride/groom/son dance and I know for sure the first song to get everyone on the dance floor is dedicated to him cuz it is his favorite song to dance too =)

I love all of these! FH's daughter is our flower girl...had a discussion with him last night about how we're involving her in the ceremony and FH thinks being a flower girl is enough. I def. want her to stand with us though! I've been all over the board with how to include her.

My 4 year old son is FH's best man and will also be walking me down the aisle with my dad. The plan is for him to cut in on the first dance.

I think we will also get him a small cake with things he likes on it since we will have a wedding cake (for me) and and groom's cake (for FH)

Brandy was not really close with her biological father or (step) dad and didn't really want to start a fight of who was walking her down the aisle, so her son who was 7 at the time walked her down the aisle and handed her off to me...we high fived...it was awesome!

Erin C., I agree with you. They are two separate things - relationship between husband and wife and parents and children.
