How did you decide on a veil length?

Amanda, on December 14, 2023 at 9:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hi all!

So I just bought my dress (yay) and it has a bit of a train. I figure now we're on to picking the accessories for it, including a veil. Most of the articles I've read seem to boil down to "you pick whatever you like!" which ... Sure. But how did everyone else go about deciding their veil length? What sort of factors did you take into consideration? Was there anything that surprised you about it? So far, the only one I've worn was when the stylist at the dress boutique gave me one to try on at the Say Yes instant.

Aaaaaand how did y'all decide what type of veil? There seem to be a million options for embellishment and lace and such.

Thanks in advance Smiley heart !

This article is super helpful for considering different veil options and lengths:

Consider your dress design/details, desired hairstyle, budget, and wedding location when deciding on a veil.

Think about your dress details — what do you want to highlight and what can you skim? If you have a dramatic back, go with a shorter veil. If your dress is fancy in front but plainer in the back, go for a longer or embellished veil. I have pearls and sparkle throughout my wedding, so I chose a veil with pearl and rhinestone trim.

Think about the venue and movement — if you dream of having a dramatic train going down the aisle but don’t want the hassle of it, maybe a floor-length dress with a cathedral veil is what you want. You can remove the veil after the ceremony, so the veil can be a nice way to do a different look for the reception if you don’t want to do a whole second dress.

For my veil, it was slightly longer than the train of my dress for a nice elegant look and it included some lace that matched my dress. Maybe consider the fabric your dress is made of and choose a veil that either has lace, shimmer, or classic tulle. I wouldn't get too caught up or stressed about which veil to pick. Just as long as it looks good with your dress and you feel beautiful, that's all that matters.

I'm team the longer the better for essentially all dresses, but it is totally personal preference! Go back and try on the dress again with all of their veil options if you can. 😊How did you decide on a veil length? 1

Wonderful picture. Did you have that veil on for the ceremony too?

Yes! Our ceremony was only a few yards from that picture. 😊 (elopement so it was just us and our photographer)

Some of the veils get quite intricate with sparkles and even golden ornamentation. So you can make the veil really stand out. The short veils can give you the wedding adornment without overstatement.

My dress is VERY simple (see in pic) so I decided to go with a long cathedral veil (that I borrowed from my cousin) i'm going to the fitting this Sunday and see how it all goes! i haven't tried it on yet but the ladies at the dress shop recommended one that was very similar to that of my cousin's so I just went with it. will update after trying it on.

Very elegant dress. It seems right to have a cathedral length veil since there is no transition point in your dress. That may be one aspect for the original poster to consider -- how the veil fits with the rest of the dress style.

Exactly! I think the assistants at the shop would always suggest something during the fitting and she can try out different styles to see what fits best
