How can this dress be altered without ruining the design?

I bought Maggie Sottero's "Sybil" at a sample sale about a month ago. I'm absolutely in love with it when it's on (buyers remorse when I look at pictures online, but I'm told that's normal). It's almost a perfect fit everywhere except length. It's a few inches too long, even with shoes most likely. The salon told me a seamstress would "cut the lace off and sew it back on". Is that true?? I love the details at the bottom and at the top, and the vertical lines of lace are so big that changing them would be obvious, right? I want to believe them and be patient, but I'm literally losing sleep over it (after 1 am here!). I'm know NOTHING about sewing or alterations, but I can't find anything to comfortably me so far in forums/searches. Did any of you have this similar "chunky lace" style and have it altered?

My dress had to be taken in a lot so I was worried about the lace details being ruined or changed. Here’s before and after alterations (still in progress). I can’t even tell! I think a good seamstress knows how to do it right!

I think as long as you have a good seamstress you should be fine. It sounds like a common alteration since so many wedding dresses have lace, a good seamstress should be able to do it without a hitch.

It's definitely possible! I will have to do the same thing. Find a seamstress you trust and is experienced in doing that. Just know, it's going to be a pretty penny but well worth it. Btw, I love your dress and mine is actually very similar.

On your dress it might make more sense to cut length from the waist part of the skirt as to not mess with the details on the bottom

also similar idea for too long dresses in the trumpet/mermaid style.

My step daughter stands 4’11 at 18 yrs old. An XS prom dress was 12” too long.
While she liked the look of it if you cut 12” off bottom of a mermaid style-what are you left with?? Not a mermaid style anymore. Seamstress told us she cuts from waist... so I guess that’s how it’s done.

Many, many wedding dresses have lace detailing along the bottom and down the length. Any respectable seamstress will be able to alter the dress with no issue and you will not even be able to tell afterwards. Just start talking to your local seamstresses and I think you will start feeling better about the alteration!

I got the same dress! The bridal shop let me order the dress 5 inches shorter than the standard length. But they said it's relatively easy to cut the lace off & move it to the new hemline. They can make it work ☺️

My dress is Maggie's "Kamiya" and it has lace at the bottom. I was told they actually remove the lace, hem it to your length, then reapply the lace appliques. Therefore, totally doable! Just make sure you take it to someone who is experienced in altering lace wedding dresses!!

Thank you guys so much! I feel a ton better. I definitely still don't understand how you could cut & reapply lace, but I'm starting to just believe it's possible lol This seamstress came highly recommended by the bridal shop and I've heard a ton of people describe her as a magician or similar haha she's also removing the crystal belt and making a pearl one. I'm still a tiny bit nervous, but you guys have made a huge difference!

Pheonyx, can you update about how your dress turned out? Were you able to tell that the lace had been removed and re-added? I have chosen the same dress and need the length taken up but am also worried about it like you were.
