How big should the head table be?

Amber, on August 29, 2018 at 3:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 16
We have a wedding party of 10 (8 bridesmaids/groomsmen plus my future hubby and I) and I’m trying to figure out how big of a table we need to set up? Thoughts?

Your bridal party should be sitting with their SOs. If there's that many people in your bridal party, I'd suggest having a sweetheart table and letting them sit with their SOs at a table nearby.

I’m wondering what size tables and how many we need for 10 people to sit at the head table. We don’t want a sweetheart table. The SOs will be fine sitting with other friends. No one will be sitting around after dinner anyways. Thanks though....

I agree with the first commenter but if you’re dead set on having them sit with you then I would get at least 2 8 ft tables. We could fit 4 people at each 8 foot table and then in between each table we were able to fit another seat.

I wouldn't want to go to a wedding and not sit with my FH, but that's just my opinion.

Are you having rectangular or circle tables?

A table for 18 or fewer if a wedding party member isn't bringing someone with them. A King's table with you and your fs at the head and the others down the sides will work fantastic.

Is it just not a thing anymore to not have a head table?? I’ve never been to a wedding with anything else.

I also agree, super awkward to not sit people with their significant others or kids. I'd just get a longer table so they can all sit together. If not, I'd be prepared for the minute eating is over the wedding party going to sit with their dates and dates feeling uncomfortable. You could also get a table big enough for their dates to be included! The rule for banquet tables is 2 feet per person per side, so 4 people per side at an 8 foot table.

I've been married for over 20 years. Any wedding my husband or I were in had SOs, and dates at the head table. Being loving and kind to wedding party members isn't a new thing

Nice to have you in the community, Amber!

Let me first make sure what I'm understanding the configuration you're looking to create! Are you picturing a circular table or a rectangular table? If you looking to do a rectangular table, would you have the bridesmaids and groomsmen on both sides or just one side? And would you have any seats along the shorter sides of the rectangular table?

Just want to make sure I'm imagining this right so I'll be able to help you better!! Smiley smile

I didn’t expect to be called rude for asking this question. I asked a simple question I also didn’t think a back story was needed, but here it is!

Our maid of honor and best man are engaged.
My brother, a groomsmen, is engaged to one of my bridesmaids.
    One groomsmen is single.
One bridesmaid just had a baby so her boyfriend is staying home with the baby.
The last groomsmen’s wife asked NOT to sit at the head table and to sit with her best friend instead.
And the last bridesmaid is from out of state and coming alone.

So, how much table space is needed for 10 people to sit at the headtable??

The plan is just a line of rectangle tables, bridesmaids on one side and groomsmen on the other!
    Thabk you!

We have 3 on each side plus us and we are doing two 8 ft tables. I’m sorry you got so much backlash!

Hello Amber, I am doing the same thing and I am going to do 2 8' tables. Honestly my thoughts about just having the bridal party at the table is because it is just a 30 minute dinner and if the spouses can not handle be apart that long, is a little ridiculous of them. It's not like we are keeping them from their spouses for the whole night just for 30 minutes of eating and a couple 2 minute speeches. I do not think it is to much to ask from our guest.
