How are you greeting your guests? Receiving line or table visits??

Lynnie, on July 30, 2018 at 4:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 47

Of course we all understand that it's good manners to greet every guest who attends your wedding, but if you have a large guest list it can start to feel like a daunting task!!

How are you making sure that you say hi to all of your guests? Are you doing a receiving line to greet your guests one-by-one, or are you planning on doing the rounds through table visits?

Table visits! Receiving lines take a long time and with a winter wedding we are already fighting against daylight!

Our DOC will have our dinner ready at our table so we can immediately sit down and eat after the first dance and once we are done everyone else will still be eating and we can make rounds then.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a receiving line, but I'm not sure if it'll work. I want to talk to the venue first, but it would lessen the need to go around to each table to say hi. But our guest list is significantly smaller than I thought it would be, so we'll probably only have around 14-15 tables or so!

Table visits. One reason I hate spotlight dances beyond B & G, is the time everyone spends sitting and watching. It cuts a big chunk of free time from everyone's circulate-and-be- social time. For people who have receiving lines that take a while, better not then go off taking photos for more than 15 or 20 minutes total.

Really neither. It's a small wedding of immediate family.

With potentially 228 guests and about 29 tables... we are going to do table visits. I am hoping we get a few declines so that the total guest count is around 180 but we will see... anyways, our plan is to go to the tables where its older guests, or guests with children that we think might leave early, greet them first, then work our way around. We will have plenty of time with the family and closer friends so we might not get to chat with them until later in the evening.

Our reception was in the private dining room of a restaurant, so we greeted people as they came and also talked to each guests or group of guests. We only had two long tables.

Greeting everyone during our hour and a half cocktail hour! And table visits for people we don’t get to. We are also having a welcome party the night before with everyone attending so hopefully can get lots of small talk out of the way and enjoy our dinner and dancing.

We're doing a first look, so we're going to try to do it during cocktail hour! If we can't finish during cocktail hour, table visits.

We'll be doing table visits. The receiving line is nice, but almost every wedding I've been to, it gets long to wait to see the bride and groom. This way, we can just pop around and say hi without everyone waiting.

Table visits! Our guest list ended up way smaller than we expected so we'll only have 11 tables to visit.

That's a great idea to have photos taken at each table to see all your guest in a photo.

I have asked my FH to concentrate on ceremony first then we will make our rounds. With 30 people, it won't be a problem, but ALL are traveling from out of town and WILL get a thank you and hug!
