Househusband aka Stay-at-home Dad

The Bride, on July 4, 2019 at 7:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

A househusband is defined as a stay-at-home dad who would take on the role of being the main caregiver of the children and overall homemaker.

Times are changing and families are evolving to where the practice of being a stay-at-home dad has become more common and socially acceptable.

What are your thoughts? Would you be okay with your spouse being a househusband?

Yes, definitely! He’s better with kids than I am.

I only wanted a man that's be okay with being a house husband because I know house spouse is not the role for me!
My fiance said he would gladly do it, his father was away so much as a child so he wants the opposite experience.

I'm also okay with a househusband, as long as I'm making enough money to support the household on my own.

I would be okay if my job paid more. If it would benefit us financially, not because he wants to. If his job and daycare came out to the same, well I wouldn't mind. Just makes sense. Cause if my job didnt pay a lot and he dicided be didnt want to work to take care of the kids, then I would have a problem with it.

If I had a job that would provide for us completely, I would totally be fine with FH staying home with the kids. As a SAHM for the past year, I do really miss having a job outside the home, but I just can’t figure out how to make daycare work with all of our schedules- and haven’t found a job that would make it worth it. Now that I finished my degree, FH is figuring out what he wants to do, which may or may not require going back yo school for him too.

My FH already does more of the chores that would be the stay at home parents job like laundry and cleaning and he surprisingly recently told me he think he'd actually like being the stay at home parent. His job is pretty mobile so he could easily stay home and still work partial hours. So I'd be totally cool with it

If the kids were still home all day yes. Once they're school aged, no. A part time job would be fine. There are so many financial risks with a single income household even long term financial risks.

No, I'm not. We are very traditional but don't judge other close friends and family members who feel differently than we do. Smiley smile

His best man is actually a stay at home dad and student and his wife is a teacher. I myself am planning on being a stay at home mom for 2 years max after we are placed with a child to adopt in a year or two while I am continuing to finish my degree/credentials but even then.. I may continue working part time as a teacher's assistant but my FH would never consider being a stay-at-home anything haha. I think we are both the most comfortable and happy with him being a provider. I myself couldn't imagine being a stay-at-home mom long term/ forever because I am so passionate about helping special needs students and wouldn't be fulfilled if I didn't have my own career/ bring home even more money to improve our quality of life.. but my FH.. he would never even think about part time. He talks about working part time after retirement LOL

I also wanted to add that I agree that a single income home is a huge financial risk. I also always think about the fact that my FH can already give us a great life without my income.. but then I think "Imagine the life we can have for ourselves and our children with my added income." I don't want to worry about not being able to go on vacations, spontanous weekend trips, or helping them pay for college, their first car, etc. I want to be the most financially stable that we can physically be.

We both said that it's when we have kids that ideally one of us would be more available or more stay at home and unfortunately that's me because my job is ridiculously flexible compared to his but if it was the other way around that's ok with me. I don't really believe in traditional gender roles
