Hourly charge for hair?

m, on March 27, 2015 at 10:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

This is a new one for me.

The hairstylist I wanted to use (no trial yet) just let me know she charges $175 for the first hour, and $75 for each additional hour.

I guess it'd be ok if I could somehow get a contract of how long these styles are going to take, or maybe just allot the time we have to get ready and price it that way, but this still seems weird to me.

Thoughts?

I have never heard of this. Is this JUST for your hair? Or is she doing other people's as well? I guess I could see it kinda as a way to charge for how much time she's actually spending vs. a per person charge. But if it's just for you it's weird.

I would want to know upfront how long my hair would take.

    That seems eh to me.

Either they are going to rush through everyone to get it done in an hour, or the could take their very long sweet ass time to rack up the bill. I'd want to know what I'm paying ahead of time ie $50 per hairdo. $50X# of people, not this unknown of how long it's going to take.

Yeah that's weird. It should just be a flat charge for the style. Maybe she's saying that's how she comes up with the cost ultimately?

I wouldn't like that. Then she could say she messed up, or she could take her leisurely time doing a simple curled style or something. I'd price out people who quote based on the style, or an average price per person.

This would be for me bridesmaids... but I'm still a little weirded out by that way of pricing. Are most people getting an idea of what bridesmaids styles their ladies want first, to price it out that way?

ETA: I don't think anyone wants a crazy updo, most probably just want a little curl or something.

I have never heard of this nor would I go with it. I would talk to her and say that you were interested in using her, but you would feel more comfortable with an agreed upon price up front. If she is doing all of the bridal parties hair then $500 total or something like that. If she isn't willing to work something like that would I would find someone else.

I been getting my hair done by stylist ever 2 weeks since I was 12 years old. I'm now 36. I have never heard of by the hour charge. They charge by the hairstyle. I would pass on this one if I was you.

I wouldn't be cool with it because she could just take longer to get paid more.

I definitely would be looking into places that charged per hairstyle.

I wrote her back. I do not think she's doing this maliciously at all, I actually do know her personally and she was highly recommended to me by several people I also trust. I think she's actually trying to cover HER butt, because where I live brides are traditionally horrible, terrible people, and when you quote them a price for a hairstyle, they will demand you spend hours and hours getting it "right".

If she fights me on it, it's totally not worth it, but we'll see what she says.
