Hotel Room Dilemma

Mercedes, on January 4, 2022 at 1:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 2

I have a few things I need advice on.

1. I would like to get a hotel block for my bridesmaids. I think it would be fun for us all to be together the night before the wedding, however my MOH feels they should chip in. I'm not sure how I feel about this being that the idea for them to be near me the night before is not their idea. I don't feel right asking them to pay. I am also going to give them an out should they choose not to and just arrive at the hotel in the morning; however, I still feel guilty throwing this expense at them. I will be paying to have their make-up done to take away some of the burden.

2. I don't know if it's necessary to rent a suite so there is room for all of us to get ready comfortably the morning of or just get a king size room. I am planning on staying at the DoubleTree. There will be 7 of us plus my hairdresser, my make-up artist and her assistant. So a total of 10 women.

3. My FH and I will be going back to the hotel for our wedding night and will not need a suite. Do you know if there is some way, I could rent the suite for one night and rent a regular king room for the second night?

I'm just not sure how to handle this.

    1. I had a similar idea but ultimately decided not to do this and I’d recommend not undertaking this expense. I know it’s coming from a great place but in this situation I’d book a complimentary block at a hotel, and allow them to book their own rooms. Those who choose to book there can do so, those who don’t want to, won’t. Another thing is that the night before the wedding you aren’t going to want to be up all night like the good old days of sleepovers.. so I’d also not recommend a giant suite for people to stay with you.
    2. This depends on the size of the suite vs king room. You don’t want to be crammed, but I do think having everyone come over the day of is a great idea, which is what I’m doing. Just book a room that’s big enough.
    3. I ran into a similar dilemma and booked a big room for both nights. Typically check out for hotels is 11am, or noon for courtesy late check out. The room you plan to get ready in should probably be the room you sleep in the night before, since getting ready often goes into the afternoon. You could consider an early check in to a suite, however, those aren’t guaranteed and you are running the risk of the room not being ready for you by the time you need to start getting ready. With 10 total people you’re going to be up very early. Do you really want to deal with the stress and uncertainty on a day where schedules/timelines actually are quite important?
