Hotel Room Blocks

Olivia, on October 29, 2019 at 6:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
I was wondering if everyone had a hotel block for guests to make reservations under at one hotel or did you just give hotel options to guests without a block?

I got a courtesy block of 10 rooms each at two local hotels and listed 3 others for guests to explore if they wish. So far, everyone has used the block that I know of.

Our hotel venue requires a block of 10 rooms we are responsible for @ $230 a night. We will probably offer another hotel option once that block is full but not at a group rate since we won’t be guaranteeing anything.

I got a courtesy block at 2 nearby hotels. People are more than welcome to look elsewhere though.

We’re just doing a block at one. We’re in a weird area (Chicago suburbs) that you would think has lots of options for hotels, but there really aren’t many to choose from close to the venue. We picked the closest for the block and figure if people want to drive 30+ minutes they can find those accommodations on their own.

We got a block of rooms at one hotel and the resort we are having our wedding at gave us a special rate for our wedding guests but not a block. Our guests can use the block rooms or they can call into the resort and ask for our wedding pricing.

We got a courtesy block at a hotel a mile down the road because they gave a discount to guests booking through the block.

I did a room block. In retrospect I don't think I should have. All it really does is guarantee rooms up to a certain date. Those rooms are usually all together. However, both hotels that I looked at for Roblox raise the price of the room by about forty to $50. So at the end of the day I think I should have just had people book on their own. Which a lot dad wants realizing how much more the room block cost. It wasn't really a necessity. I think as long as you give your guests options as to nearby hotels they'll be fine.

We are giving guests a list of options, since the area near our venue is right outside two smaller cities and right by an airport, so there are lots of options for every budget. In our case, making a block would be a waste of time since our rate could be more expensive than an equally nice hotel .5 miles down the road!

We did 2 courtesy blocks in the same area but our church and venue are about 2 miles away (so not walkable). No closer hotels are very appealing. We tried to pick the cheaper end of hotels in a fun area. There is public transportation near the hotels for guests to explore the downtown area. We will likely provide shuttle services for these 2 hotels.

That said, we’ve had some guests ask about cheaper hotels near the venue and we’ve let them know we didn’t pick them because of the neighborhood - not walkable, questionable for safety at night. It’s up to them from there.
