Hotel Room Blocks Rates ***UPDATE***

We got over $100 off per room. The ceremony/reception was held at a center-city hotel. Only problem, they wanted to block 25 rooms each, for Saturday and Sunday night (the wedding was the Sunday night, of a 3-day holiday weekend), and we knew that few out of town guests would use it (the rehearsal was not the night before), so we switched and got 5 for Saturday night and 45 for Sunday night. I think guests ended-up booking 52 rooms, for Sunday night, with only a couple of those for non-local guests.

We attended my cousin's wedding in Florida 5 years ago and they had blocks at 2 hotels. We got an additional $20 off, when we booked our flights (Expedia?, Orbitz?, etc.), so we didn't use the block.

When we booked our block, our block rate was the best rate available. By the time most of my guests booked the best rate available was almost double the block rate. I'm glad that I was able to get the block rate locked in for my guests. I also was able to get my bridal suite for two nights at the block rate for filling the block. That was a huge savings for me.

The rooms for my Hotel are currently going for $136 for the weekend of our wedding. Our room block is for $104.

So it's 37 days away and the rate for my rooms are $129 and when I go online to book hotel room for the same dates as my wedding it is exactly the same $129. Actually to check in on the Thursday, it is actually $99 dollars. I guess I really didn't get a special rate. My room block closes on 7/21/15.
