Hotel Deposit help!

Karla, on September 12, 2019 at 5:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
For those that have done destination weddings I’d love to see examples of wording you used to ‘push’ your guests to get their rooms booked. Something that gets them excited but also something that says book now before prices jump. Thanks!

I just said Book by October 31 to receive a discounted rate. After October 31 the rooms will be released for public sale and the price will go up.
Hopefully they get that. The hotel deadlines are after my RSVPs are due anyway. I’m not going to send reminders and chase adults to book their hotel room.

That’s def fair. I just don’t understand why ppl procrastinate. Is it procrastinating or just dragging it out because I really don’t want to go? I haven’t sent my room info yet, but it’s fast approaching. Hope to not have too many last min ones

We waited a bit to book our room for the last destination wedding we went to because it was a royal pain in the 🍑 to make the reservation. You had to call one phone number which was always busy, give them the special code and then the rep played this game that the rooms weren’t available for two nights, only four nights (we didn’t originally want to stay at the wedding hotel for the full trip). And now, post wedding, they won’t stop calling and mailing us to join their timeshare nonsense - it is honestly so incredibly annoying.

HOPEFULLY that is not the situation with your hotel. But may be worth talking to a few guests who’ve already booked to see how it went.
Our wedding was not destination, but a number of people traveled from out of state. Most waited until the very last minute to book. I think they thought if they held out they’d find some kind of better deal hotel or couldn’t decide if they wanted to stay in center city or closer to wedding venue. 🤷‍♀️

Your wedding is over a year away. I wouldn’t book any vacation that far in advance, even for someone’s wedding.

I told everyone about the terms of booking at my hotel. There’s no down payment required, and you can make any changes to the reservation up to three days prior to check in without penalty, including cancellations. If you have a block, the price should be set until a certain date. Make sure everyone is aware of that date so they don’t miss it. I made a private Facebook group for my wedding where I can remind everyone of these things. I’m also telling them about different activities, restaurants, museums, etc in the area so they know there is more to do than just my wedding. One last thing, make sure it’s easy to book the rooms. I have a link on my wedding webpage that goes directly to where they can book within my block. I also have instructions on how to do so if they prefer to call.

To each their own I guess. If I knew I was going and i can get the cheapest rate now, why not book? That’s just the planner in me, I get that people are procrastinators. I’ve been tracking the prices and it’s jumped from what it was 3 weeks ago. Snd that’s at over a year out so imagine what will happen as it gets closer to.
