Hotel Blocks

Candace, on February 1, 2020 at 3:19 PM Posted in Planning 1 11
So. ALL of our wedding guests are from out of town and I need to block off rooms. How did you go about this? We have 100 guests.

Call around to the hotels nearby and inquire about their room block rates.
Typically they will block off anywhere from 10-20 rooms for you to begin with and once those are booked they will open up more.
We included a link to the hotel blocks on our wedding website.

I used Kleinfeld, yes the bridal store here in
New York has an amazing free service. They do 95% of the work. It was fantastic, I learned about it while at the store. Here is a link

I researched hotels near our venue and just inquired through email. The hotel's event coordinator contacted me right away to meet in person to go over details and have us tour the hotel and see what type of rooms we wanted to book. After that, she set up a contract of how many rooms they would block for us and the discounted rate that we agreed on.

I worked at a hotel that did wedding blocks-- always call the sales office of that hotel and inquire there because their sales managers can give you a better deal than 3rd party sites. They will send you a proposal (quote) and possibly arrange a meeting.

Marriott is super easy to work with - I just called the one closest to our venue and asked for a hotel block and they transferred me to the right person. It’s free and I got it done in a day.

I'm in the exact same situation. I booked 2 10 blocked rooms at two different hotels, and they will add more as needed.
I'm also anticipating not all 100 will be attending and that a few may want to book an Air BnB over the hotel.

Did you have to meet with them personally or were you able to discuss it over the phone? Did they do a courtesy block or did you have to pay? If so how much does it cost to block out rooms?

That’s what I’m hoping for! I’m off on Tuesday so have to call the two hotels closest to our venue that offer the shuttle so that people aren’t driving back drunk lol

Yes that's awesome! Honestly I wouldn't book a hotel if they will charge you to block off rooms so many I've heard of don't

I’ve heard most don’t charge but I’ve heard some do.
