It doesn't really matter, as they will give you a deadline for your guests to reserve the rooms anyway, but we reserved ours about a year out and just started telling people via word-of-mouth, and then we included an "Accommodations" card when we sent out our STDs (about 9 months prior to our wedding)

This will likely vary by hotel and location; hotels in busy tourist/convention areas are likely to do reservations (and maybe blocks) much earlier. Hotels in more suburban/less busy areas may have a shorter lead up. Call the hotels you're considering, the worst case is they'll tell you when to call back for your date. Good luck!

My wedding is Nov. 9, 2019 and I reserved my hotel block in May 2019. I don't think it matters when you reserve it, but you want to make sure you give your guests enough notice

We blocked ours out 11 months in advance. I dont think there is a real time limit on this. Your rooms typically need to be fully booked 1 month before hand or they release them.

I called hotels and they told me I could fill out a room block contract about eight months before my wedding and it was still early. But they have to be ready before your invites are ordered and printed

Where I live they said they wont do anything until a year out. That seems like a good time frame to start calling

We booked our two 12 months in advance, most hotels wouldn't let us do it prior to 1 year out.

So, this is completely circumstantial by each hotel. I know that as a hotel sales rep, I am booking blocks out into fall of 2020 since it's such a high demand wedding time. However, although you might be able to contract guests may not actually be able to start booking the rooms until about 10 months prior to the wedding date. It all depends on when each hotel released their future inventory.

We booked ours about 11 months out - it was nice to be able to put the info on the website ASAP.
