Hotel blocks in Philadelphia

Julia, on January 8, 2017 at 1:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi guys - first time poster here. My FH and I got engaged at the end of September and booked our venue in Nov. It's a center city, Philadelphia wedding in Aug. of this year. I haven't booked hotel room blocks yet and am now freaking out reading everyone's posts about how far away in advance that needs to be booked. I feel so behind! For those of you with center city / Philly weddings, how far in advance did you book hotel room blocks? And what were some of the best deals you got? Any specific hotel recommendations?

It's a Sunday evening wedding so I figured that hotels will be easier to book for a Sunday night. Then I realized that most out of towners will want to stay the whole weekend...

I have a list of contacts at hotels to call that was given to me by my venue but all of them are sales people who work Mon-Fri hours. I'll call first thing tomorrow but was hoping to get some info. in the meantime.

Thanks ladies!

Julia

I'm getting married next October in Old City and we had our blocks set up within the past month just because my entire side will be from out of town. The cheapest block rate we got was at the Wyndham for $199. A few other hotels in the area offered rates between $220 and $250. The Holiday Inn Express has rates as low as $141 for my date but they wouldn't offer us a block so I spread that via word of mouth.

I think you're fine with regards to timing - it's definitely something you want to send out soon but I wouldn't stress over it. Plus there are so many hotels and unless there's a huge convention or something in town, you should be fine.

I think it depends on the location and hotel. I've called a few here and they've told me they won't do hotel blocks until around 6 months prior. It stresses me out because it's a holiday weekend but I'm sure it will work out.

Mine is June and I stated calling in June of 2016 and every hotel (over 10) didn't do blocks, or were already booked.

But don't freak out. There's apparently a really big city convention that weekend and they were booking 2 years out!

I did find a place for a block of 30 rooms at $199 a night.

That seemed to be the average price.

Start calling tomorrow and you should be okay.

My wedding isn't until November, but we already have our room blocks. I used https://hiskipper.com and it was great. Just put in how many rooms needed and for what dates. I chose the hotels I wanted to look at for room blocks and they handled the rest. No fees involved. It was actually really easy and stress free. The hotel follows up with you directly if you decide to accept their offer to give you the booking link for your guests and their contact info should you need them.
