Hotel blocks? How does this work?

Terri, on December 12, 2019 at 9:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I am working on setting up some hotels for my guests...but I am so confused on this process. I realize there is a fee involved in reserving a certain amount of rooms, but when I see deposit is $500 and then it says balance due three days before...what does that mean exactly? Are we paying for the actual rooms then and the guests don't at all? I am really confused and google is no help on a 101 on this. Help!

You can always ask for a courtesy block from whichever hotels you're looking at. I'm not sure if all hotels do it. It just basically allows you to book the rooms you need and your guests will be financially responsible for them. They would just need your name and wedding date to reserve the rooms.

I agree with Jasmine ask for a courtesy block we have a block at the Holiday inn that will expire a month before the wedding and we won't be charged. We also have one at the venue which is a hotel and ballroom. Again this one expires a month before our wedding. We wont owe any money to either place if the rooms aren't booked.

We had a DW and they gave us a courtesy block and we just had to release rooms by a certain date or we would be charged. I would ask for that.

Definitely ask for a courtesy block. They’ll have a release date and you won’t be charged. It sounds like that you’re financially liable for any rooms that aren’t booked for your block right now, so if you have 10 rooms blocked and only 5 book, you’ll have to pay for the other five, so it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask for a courtesy block!

Like PPs have said, look for hotels that do courtesy blocks! We’re doing a courtesy block at SpringHill Suites. They reserved 10 rooms at no charge, and those fill up, we can add more. I think most Marriott hotels offer a courtesy block.

Call the hotel you're interested in and ask to set up a courtesy block!
