Hotel blocks for Destination wedding

Vanessa, on June 13, 2016 at 8:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

When should we start blocking hotel rooms? We are a destination wedding for 10/2017. Smiley smile

We did ours a year ahead. One of the hotel options already had too many blocks since we're getting married in prime wedding season so we jumped on blocking a different hotel.

Do you have a wedding planner or coordinator? A lot of times they can help in that area.

If not, you've got a little bit of time to do that. Some places don't do reservations for over a year away. Plus I've heard of some brides having the hotel reserve for the same year instead of the next! But if you want to reserve now and the hotel (s) will let you, go for it. Otherwise, wait til fall.

You should be good with a year ahead. Our wedding is 6/17 and I had tried to do it back in March but they said it was too early and they couldn't give me rates for that far ahead.

Same with the year ahead. Our hotel wouldn't even let our guests book until a year out. It's a DW.

We set ours up about a year out. There was very little booking action until our invites went out.

Our wedding is in Oct. 2017 in Old San Juan, PR. I am getting offers through wedding wire already... but nothing that I am interested in at the moment and some are asking for huge deposits $500 to $1000 or total first night stay. This has prevented me from moving forward....

Our reception site is a hotel that only our party will stay there. Cost is just way too high for guests. Would you all suggest I should start blocking those rooms? I did receive quotes...

No wedding planner yet... we are still negotiating. My guess is that we will go with a partial wedding planner 1) it fits in our budget 2) I like planning things. Smiley smile

We had a small destination wedding (about 20ppl). We didn't have any hotel blocks, and I was happy to find out some of my guests got a better deal than I did for staying at the same hotel. With plenty advance notice, it shouldn't be a problem.

We set ours up one year out just to make sure we rooms set aside. We've had some activity but I'm sure most won't come until invites go out. The rep I spoke to (Hilton Hotels) said generally they can start offering rates 14 months out but can't set up the blocks/let guests book until 12 months out.
