Hotel blocking

Caitlin, on March 21, 2022 at 6:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
So I am debating very hard about whether or not to do hotel blockings. My FH and I are getting married and having the reception in the same location, and it’s about 15 minutes from our house. However, it’s about 35-50 minutes for guests. Our guest list is mostly family, so there aren’t too many younger people going to be there, maybe 8. Now our families do like to drink and party but a lot of them also don’t get totally trashed. What are you guys doing if you are having this dilemma?

I think it's always worth blocking some rooms. People's age or how much they drink is irrelevant. I have friends who love to party and live near the venue, and the wedding ends at 8:30, so I thought they would go home right after -- it turns out they want a hotel. Go for it, you have nothing to lose.

Check with the hotels near the venue, see if you can get a courtesy block, usually with those, they hold the set number of rooms at the agreed upon price until a month or so before the date. Then any unbooked rooms are released and opened up to general public. That way you at least have an option for your guests while not being financially responsible.

As PP said, check if hotels nearby do a courtesy block. These typically give guests a discount and don't require any cost up front. The rooms are reserved for a certain time, usually a month before the date, and any unsold rooms go back to general booking and yoi aren't responsible for any costs. This way, the option is there if people want it, but it isn't any added monetary expense.

We just did a courtesy block at a nearby hotel. We’re not liable for any charges if they’re not filled. I personally think most guests are capable of finding their own rides and place to stay so if you didn’t do a block it wouldn’t be a huge deal. But you could at least see if there is a courtesy block available.

We got a courtesy block for the hotel closest to our reception venue then also have a link on our wedding website to a site that lays out other hotels in the area based on distance to the reception venue. Most of our guests are from out of town, and I'm sure even some of the local guests would want a room, so we figured we'd give them the info and let them choose.

We also got a courtesy block! I was then actually able to extend the block for no additional charge as I got feedback from guests about who would like to stay in the hotel!

You can ask if they can extend a discount for your wedding! Our venue doesn't do a hotel block because it's a small boutique hotel but they gave us a link so that guests can reserve with a family and friends discount. It's first come, first served, but relieves some of the pressure on the couple in needing to count and determine how many rooms are needed give or take a few.

I am at that point too that I will require about some rooms for certain guests. Oh ok then let them get a room hopefully ppl are not to wasted lol but if you have told them that they have a certain time reserved a room that not your problem and then they need to find a hotel then. This why we give them a deadline for meet.Enjoy your day

We did a hotel block at a hotel about 5 minutes from our Venue.

FH and I were planning on getting a room regardless as we live about 45 minutes from our venue, and almost all of our guests live within a 20 minute drive of our venue. We opted for a hotel block as we are also going to be offering transportation from the hotel to the venue then back at the end of the night, we wanted our guests to enjoy themselves without worrying about needing to drive.
