We're considering an absolutely beautiful venue about 2hr away from home. It has everything we could ever want and more. The only problem is that the hotel rooms on site are around $200 per night and there are no other hotels in the area. Is it unreasonable to book a venue so far from our home and expect people to pay 200/ night to stay? I'm mostly worried about the bridal party and out of state family who will need to be at the venue the night before for the rehearsal, etc. and would have to pay for two nights. I would appreciate any advice! I'm torn between the venue of my dreams, and expecting too much of our guests. Thanks!!

The most I'd pay for a hotel is $120 a night and that's only when splitting the cost to drop it to $60.

I agree with other posters- you know your guests better then we do.

My room block is $105 around Philadelphia area. Which i thought was very reasonable considering rooms are usually around $160-$200.

Definitely agree with PPs that it depends on your area and your guests and what they are used to paying. Out of four weddings we are attending this fall, three of the hotels will be $200 or higher. Those three are all in areas where that amount is typical.

$200 is pricey I think. Plus gas, tolls, food ect.

Ours ranged from $129-$200 ish depending on what you got. A lot of people went for the more expensive room because it's a 2 bedroom suite with a pull out couch in the "living room" people just splitting the costs between couples.

Is that the regular rate, or the room block rate?

@Jma72191 - The venue is Mountain Creek Lodge in Vernon. The closest off-property hotel is 40 minutes away - because it's a ski resort its pretty much in the middle of no-where. I do agree with y'all though - I think its just too much to expect people to pay, and I would hate to have people force themselves into something they aren't happy/comfortable with.

@Jeleebeenz - I'm dying for a rustic type venue, and there are not many here in Jersey. There are a few farms, but their venue rental cost is around 9,000 just for the venue and that's way out of budget for us when considering another $15,000 in catering on top of that. I think I'd rather have all of our friends and family be able to attend, though, instead of chancing it that people wont be able to come because of the distance/cost. Its just so so so pretty so it makes me sad.

@Christina check out the Loft at Jack's Barn in Oxford NJ - I was just at a wedding there. Stayed at the Marriott Lebanon about 1/2 hour away, it was 129/night and we did two nights. Very rustic

It's not crazy expensive, but when I book hotel rooms, I always look for something under $180. Preferably closer to $130 if possible. You know your family and friends better than anyone else and the typical price for hotels in your area, but if my friend only had a room block at one hotel and it was around $200, I would be looking elsewhere. If this were a vacation, that's another story, but this is a wedding weekend. Some people might be staying 2+ nights. $400+ for room, +airfare or gas, food, tolls...things are getting expensive at that rate.

I have this same issue....problem is...I already booked the venue being so in love. My family kept telling me that if it means enough to people to be there, they will pay for lodging..

still isnt easy and I'm trying all I can to find shuttles to the nearest ''bigger town''.

Did you get married at Mountain Creek by chance? We're looking at a venue nerarby and that's the only available hotel. I too am concerned on hotel costs for guests. Most will be traveling about 2 hours to the venue.
