Hotel Block Prices

Marie, on October 14, 2019 at 9:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
As a guest- How much do you think is a reasonable amount to pay for someone’s wedding block per night?

For added context- we are getting married in Sarasota, FL in April which is still considered high season. Ive accepted the prices are what they are but I’m just curious to understand what people think is considered too much

I live in a pretty high cost of living area so even with block prices at cheaper hotels, we’ve never paid under $200/night to stay somewhere for a wedding. If I’m just needing a hotel for one night, I’d probably go up to around $400. If we needed to stay for multiple nights or also fly, we’d probably want to be closer to that $200/night cost.

I'm having my wedding in Orange County, CA in August. I guess the decent pricing would be based on the average of where you're having your wedding. Although its not the cheapest, the most decent hotels I could find (as close as possible excluding the cheapest) is about $120/night. Being CA alone is expensive but also being in the summer, I'm surprised it wasn't more than that.

Hotels in our area are $300 a night and up. All of our guests had to travel for our wedding.

It totally depends on where (location). That being said, a boutique or the four seasons is going to be more than the holiday inn. Our boutique Hilton block is $230 in Key Largo and I think that’s totally reasonable.

I think around $250 would be the max for me per night, especially if I were staying alone in the room.

We had two blocks (in Denver), one for $80 a night and one for $120. We've been to a few weddings with hotel blocks and paid $100-$160 typically in Colorado (Denver & mountain towns), southern California, New Jersey and Houston. Once we paid $190 in NYC but that's the highest.

Ours all vary. I didn't have to pay anything to block them. We have three different blocks because the wedding is on a gameday in a college town and they'll only give a few rooms. Lowest is $110 and highest is $225. That being said, some family is coming from NYC and won't be phased by the price because that's normal to them.

Price depends on location. Large cities cost more than small towns. Then you factor in tourist season vs not.
