Hotel block or list hotel options?

Elizabeth, on October 18, 2019 at 7:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
I know there is an option on wedding wire for room blocks in hotels, but just wanted to see what everyone is doing or has done? I did the “bids” but do not want to have to foot expense of rooms being left empty. We will not know how many to expect until after the holidays. Most will be from out of town. I figured if we gave them the names of a few places, they’d be able to book it themselves. I’m afraid that hotels will book quickly, though and we will have to scramble.

Thanks in advance!

Awesome. There are a few nice ones that are close. I may just do that and see who has the best price. I am nervous about it being too expensive for guests!

We did one hotel block and also provided a list. It doesn’t matter to me where they book so I provided both

Thanks for the feedback! I am making it more complicated that it needs to be! That makes so much sense.

Some hotels will give you a complimentary block for a select number of rooms where you’re not penalized if all rooms aren’t blocked. Our hotel block is through SpringHill Suites, and they gave us 10 rooms without a penalty, and if those fill up, we can add more rooms afterwards.

Sweet!! I may start small and then add more as we know more. Booking 30 at once just seemed like a little much! I am definitely making it harder than it should be! ☺️

We are doing both. Booking a block of rooms to ensure guests can get an available room as we are getting married in a tourist town. Then we have a list with other options, one being more kid friendly with a water park and one a bit cheaper if people choose. The hotel we blocked with gave us 20 rooms and if they are not claimed 1 month prior to wedding, they just go back on the market- no penalty. We didn’t have to put any money down and this way people got a group discounted rate on the room.

Same as what others posted. We needed a minimum of 5 rooms booked to keep the group rate. No penalty if rooms aren't book. Just go back on the market a month out. I offered 2 options. But some people priced other hotels and found some good deals.

Many hotels will reserve a block for a period of time at no cost to you. Reach out to a few and see if you can get a block. It will be best for your guests.

I would do at least 1 complimentary hotel block, then list a few other options for guests.
