Hotel block number of nights

Tiffany, on August 16, 2017 at 1:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

If my wedding is on Friday, and it's a three day weekend (Memorial Day the following Monday), how many nights would you book for your hotel block? All guests are out of town, and a few are just ~1.5 hr drive away. I wonder if they would want to stay longer to make a vacation out of it.

I tell hotels for my corporate events and my wedding to add 3+/- language for the rates. This way people can secure the room at a reduced rate 3 days before or after the wedding.

You may run into a problem with the holiday situation, but if you provide a cut off date for the block, they should be fine with it.

I would do Thursday, Friday, and maybe a couple Saturday's, depending on if there is a fee for room blocks. If there is, probably just Thursday and Friday. Ours is that following Sunday so we are doing Saturday and Sunday night rooms

My hotel (Marriott) added the 3+\- without it being in the contract. I will say being a holiday weekend myself, carefully think about how many rooms you'll need each night. Meaning count the people you know will be there (for us it was immediate family and all my aunts/uncles/and 3/4 my cousins).

We had the hardest time changing our disbursement of rooms. Our contract was for 70(and we needed to fill 70%). Originally they were like 35 for Sunday and 35 for Monday. We tried to move some of the Sunday's to Saturday (since they gave us only four as part of the +/- bit) and eventually needed to add more. They were super accommodating, but as it got closer, the hotel was almost full so it became more of a problem.

I blocked 2 nights. If they want to stay longer they can they just may not be able to get the cheaper rate, especially on a holiday weekend. One of the women who did my block for Marriott said that if they booked early and wanted more dates they could give them the discount even if it isn't in the block but its a manager discretion thing.

Ours isnt a holiday weekend but our hotel gave us 25 rooms for Friday and Saturday. All of FH's family is out of town and hardly any are coming Friday. They are either coming Thursday (brothers and parents) or Saturday (rest of the family). See what the hotels offer you first.
