Hotel Block in Vegas?

VegasWed!, on January 25, 2017 at 12:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I am completely torn on whether to do a room block in Vegas for our wedding. We would like to stay at the Golden Nugget on Fremont St, but I know downtown Vegas isn't for everyone. I already contacted Nugget about a room block and it's a $30 discount for guests, making it $200 a night. 10 room minimum, we're on the hook if we don't reach at least 9.

I'm concerned about committing to the room block since the Nugget is the most expensive in that area, and I know good deals can be found on the internet. Opinions on what should I do? We are having a small wedding, expecting 75-100 people.

Our wedding is not at the Golden Nugget. It is at the Neon Museum. We want to stay downtown and the Nugget is the nicest of the hotels in the area, which is why I want to stay there and offer it to my guests as well.

I'm in Vegas and most of my family is staying on the strip when they come out. I'm not doing a room block because everyone is choosing their own hotels and what not.

@alyssachu yeah that's my concern. I actually don't like the strip.

Is it tacky to post something on my wedding webpage to the effect of contact me if interested in staying with us at the Golden Nugget? And seeing if we can get close to 9 first? That sounds like a lot of work and just something else to worry about.

I think I'd want to stay on the strip as well! With so many hotel options I feel like your guests with either price shop and choose something different, or have a place they've always wanted to stay!

It's also really nice to not have stress about filling your room block!

Thanks all for your input! I think I'll just recommend the Nugget since that's where we will be staying and let everyone book wherever they'd like.

Personally, I would not pay $200 for a hotel room on Fremont. There are too many lower cost options and then pay $12 to take an Uber for the wedding. October is not a crazy busy month for Vegas so I don't see why Golden Nugget would be so much unless there is something going on that specific weekend. I usually don't spend any more then $150 for a room on the strip at Treasure Island or Monte Carlo.

My cousin is getting married in Vegas in March. She got a courtesy room block at Caesar's for about $150 a night.

Since Vegas has so many other hotel options for under $200 a night, there's a good chance your guests won't want to stay at the hotel you chose. Also, I personally wouldn't do a room block anywhere that doesn't offer courtesy room blocks.

As others have mentioned, $200/night at Golden Nugget seems way too expensive.

I am looking to do a hotel block on the Strip for our wedding - thanks for bringing up this subject!

I wouldn't block rooms there just because I feel like it'd be too risky. That's a LOT of money, and not well-spent. There are plenty of deals people can find in Vegas on their own because it's such a popular travel site. If you do block rooms, find a cheaper place.

I agree on it being expensive. I should clarify that the room is actually more like $160 but with the $27 resort fees total comes to about $200 daily. Nevertheless, my concern is the same and sounds like rightly so!

We are not doing room blocks exactly because of what you are saying. We are staying at the MGM and if people cancel 2 weeks prior we are on the hook for the rooms.

Well you have our same wedding date and we are also getting married in Vegas. I am not doing a room block because everyone's budget is different and there are different hotels that some like more than the other.

That weekend is a busy weekend in Vegas, because there is a Children's summit event going on that weekend and two other big conferences that are going on. However, also the weekend dates are the highest rates.

We have a room block at Vdara and Ballys. We have about 25 rooms already booked at Vdara and 4 at Ballys. It was $99 during the week and $150 on the weekend for Vdara. $64 weekday and $150 weekend at Ballys. I didn't have to guarantee any rooms.

We're getting married in LV and did not do a room block, but the hotel gave us a guaranteed room rate (about $100 less than the market rate). There are SO many hotels in the city, list a couple of your favorites on your website.

Side note, you mentioned expecting 100 people to attend. From my experience and WW findings, DWs have a 50-60% attendance rate. We invited 108 and 52 are attending, so not even 50%. Hope this helps in your planning! Smiley smile

Why is it $200/night? I got a 10-room block at Golden Nugget for $100/night for the Carson Tower rooms. The suite my FH and I booked is $220 a night with dates in late June.

Downtown isn't for everyone but my FH and I personally love it so we got the room block. I'm really surprised at how many people wanted to stay where we're staying and are booking there.

@Vivian - It comes to close to $200 after the daily resort fee. I'm not sure why its so expensive. Someone else mentioned a conference going on same weekend as my wedding and when I did a general price search I found a lot of hotels in that range when it's all said and done. I'm also looking at the new tower rooms. What kind of suite did you get?
