Hotel Block code on wedding website?

MNBride, on July 26, 2016 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Has anyone had problems with non wedding guests using the code if you put it on your website? I would like to add it to the website so people don't have to wait for the invitation in order to book a hotel room. Our hotel is in a suburban area so not a real hot spot for events or anything.

Can you password protect your website?

Yes--do it, but make sure the website has password protection.

I put it on mine. My website isn't password protected either. I'm not really worried.

I put it on mine, without a password. you can always check in periodically with the hotel for names.

Currently my website is public, if I do password protect it how do people see my website?

MN, you would have to give people the password when you give them the website link.

But if you are not worried about protecting your privacy or anything else on there, and are ONLY worried about the hotel code, I wouldn't worry about password protecting it. I think the password is more important when you are trying to protect yourself.

I highly doubt anyone is going to be using your code, especially since you said you're not in a popular area.

Honestly, I worked for a hotel (in Boston, a popular tourist destination) there was only one time someone not invited to a wedding was booked at a group discount and that was due to a hotel employee error, not a guest's error. As others have mentioned, if you are that concerned you can ask the hotel to provide the rooming/guest list every so often and check the names.

MNBride - as someone who works in hotels in the Twin Cities suburbs, I wouldn't worry about other people using your code. In 12 years, I have never heard of it happening. You can always call the hotel periodically to check names and room count (especially if you think you'll need more than they'll initially give you), but the likelihood of other people using your code is pretty slim.

My site is only password protected for event information and RSVPs. Everything else (including my hotel block) is public and I haven't had an issue. The hotel I blocked gives me a "guest list manager" link where I can see who has booked the hotel through my block, and I can let them know if anyone doesn't belong. So far, no strangers.
