Hot Chocolate Bar - Yes or No?

Kaysey, on November 18, 2019 at 10:14 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

I brought up the idea of doing a hot chocolate bar to my FH really early on in the planning stages and he agreed to it. We are getting married in February and it will still be a little chilly where we live. Now, I am starting to have second thoughts about it b/c we are also having a full open bar. As much as I'd like to think that those who plan on drinking alcohol at the wedding wouldn't mix that and hot chocolate, I feel like some might and it won't end well. We are not having many kids at our wedding with the exception of our ring bearer and flower girl who will be 3 and 1 at the wedding. Should I just forget the idea of it all together? My FH plans on taking advantage of our open bar at the wedding so he already told me he won't be having hot chocolate and I do plan on drinking alcohol at the wedding but not a lot.

Edit: I am aware that some put alcohol in hot chocolate but I have never done it personally. I'm worried about the warm milk not mixing well with the alcohol.

We’re going to do one! I’m not a huge drinker and a lot of people in my family aren’t either but we will have an open bar for those who are. However, we thought the hot chocolate bar would be a cozy touch to provide to our guests at the end of the night!

It sounds super fun to be honest. Can you diy it yourself? It doesn't sound like it'd be too expensive if you did. esp because hot cocoa mix isn't too expensive.

Our plan was to DIY it. I have already looked at signs from Etsy that we would buy for it and I made a list of what all we would need. It wouldn't be expensive for us to do either, which was my favorite part. I think I'm going to go with it and if those who drink at the wedding decide to have hot chocolate too, they'll have to deal with the consequences haha

That's why I brought it up to my FH in the first place. We both love hot chocolate and since it's still going to be cold on our wedding day, we thought it would work nicely. I really want to do it and everyone I've asked about it loves the idea. I'm just worried about people mixing the alcohol and hot chocolate and getting sick at the wedding. My FH said our guests should be old enough to know not to mix the two Smiley laugh

I’m confused why guests can’t mix alcohol with hot chocolate? My entire group of friends puts alcohol IN hot chocolate. I think a hot chocolate would be a great way to end the night/warm up before going out in the cold.

I'm worried about the warm milk and toppings not mixing right. My FH did say something about putting alcohol in it but I've never done it.

A hot chocolate bar sounds like an amazing idea. I think it'll be fine, but I'm also one of the people who loves spiked hot chocolate and has had it after a few drinks with zero negative effects. Are you worried about people not being able to keep it down? If that's the case, I think people generally have an idea of what their bodies can't handle after a few drinks, and for those that don't you can let your bartenders know that they have the right to cut people off who look like they've had too much.

We are doing a hot apple cider station! We are getting married at the end of November in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado so we are expecting 30-50 degree weather so we will have blankets, umbrella heaters, and hot apple cider for our guests to sip on throughout the ceremony!

A hot chocolate bar sounds great! Most people would love it.

No reason you can't add alcohol to it. Folks do that all the time, but not required of course.
