hot air balloon wedding

hershey, on May 16, 2009 at 4:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

I am thinking of a different type of wedding for next fall. A hot air balloon wedding is different and would suite or personalites. We would do it on the ground but invite friends/family to join us in the air (may have multiple balloons) My only concern is about the reception. I have no idea where to start. The balloon is very unpredictable in where it will land, but I could just find a resturant/hall in the general vacinity of where I lift off. Any thoughts!!

First, keep the whether in mind. However, why not think of an early afternoon wedding (around noon), and have a tent put on the balloon site you want to take off from. Have your ceremony with the balloon in the background--then have your reception under the tent. Once the reception is complete (about 5 pm), then you and your husband can ride off into the sunset.(plan your time according to the time of year for your susnet). Just think of the pictures you'll have. Your guests will talk about your wedding for years! Have fun and best wishes!

That sounds awesome! I guess you will just have to hire a driver of limos or a buss to be available to pick everyone up and take them to the balloons and then have them in a certain area (which can be communicated at a later point while in the air) to pick everyone up and take them to the venue of your choice. Good luck planning and Congratulations!

I have had first-hand experience with one hot air balloon wedding. You are wise to say, "We would do it on the ground." Wind conditions change and balloons are easily grounded (i.e., lift-offs canceled).

I am an officiant and in my case was to have officiated a wedding at a specific time and place, while the balloon was in the air.

On the day of the wedding, the balloon flight was canceled because of harsh winds. The wedding was rescheduled for the next day. As I was already booked for the following day, I could not perform the wedding ceremony. Thus, the Balloon Company retained another minister to officiate the wedding.

I learned later, after the wedding, that heavy winds came up and the pilot had difficulty landing the craft. They told everyone aboard to "hit the deck," as the basket landed roughly and minister was banged up.

Balloons may sound exciting and romantic, but wind currents make a big difference in a successful flight.

    Good luck!
