Got word from my host mom that her visa application was denied, after countless letters, statements, notarization, calls to the embassy in Mexico City as well as sending money on my end, and letters, statements, notarizations, a 3 hour drive to Mexico City for an interview and a long and pain in the ass process on her end. The consulate gave us two BS reasons for the denial, one being that our "ties" aren't strong enough (I lived with her for half a year in 2010-11 and visit her at least once a year), and the second that her employment isn't strong enough. She takes in host students from 4 language schools in the city she lives in and has pay stubs to prove it.
We did the application early because we knew this was a possibility but the fact it actually happened pisses me off. We can of course reapply "if you think the situation changed" according to the consulate but I don't see what else we can do to "change" this wedding enough to get the application approved.
Ugh. Rant over.
