Hosiery question

Danielle, on August 13, 2017 at 5:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

I can't believe my life has come to obsessing over stuff like this, but anyway...

Would black pantyhose (not thick tights) look weird with a wedding gown?

I was really hoping to wear pantyhose with back seams, but the control top versions in the fancier, longer-lasting brands I'd like to wear on my wedding day (Wolford, Commando, Oroblu) only come in black. If I want nude back-seamed stockings, I'd have to opt for non-control top. Before you suggest wearing Spanx underneath, yes, I've considered that--though if I have my druthers, I'd rather wear blue panties that say something like "I Do" or "Bride". Plus I'd rather not feel entirely like a can of Pillsbury Grands for eight hours.

Now, back to caring about something important like the font in my wedding programs.

Why can't you wear Spanx over the blue panties?

No, I would never wear black hose/tights under my wedding dress, unless my dress and shoes were black. I think it would look tacky.

What does your dress look like? Definitely not a fan of black hosiery for a traditional wedding dress, but it could work with some styles

    Dress pictured here:

The only parts covered by hosiery that people would see would be the tops of my feet, really. Shoes for pictures and ceremony are vintage white ostrich leather shoes with chunky heels; back-up flats are Brooks Brothers shoes in wool in a burgundy plaid like the one in my avatar.

Wearing hosiery over Spanx over panties doesn't sound like the most comfortable option.

Can I ask why you can't wear your blue undies with a pair of high waisted spanx? Do you have wear tights? I just don't see the point of them.

    Gorgeous dress!

Kind of a side question, but why wear hosiery at all?

I don't see the point? I think it would look really bad.

Found these on Amazon. Lord and Taylor sells the same brand so they should be decent quality

Why wear hosiery? 1) It'll be December 2) Since my engagement ring is from the 40s, I wanted to have some 40s accessories, seamed hose being among them.

FWIW, I might just go for the nude ones with seams and skip the other shapewear. It's not like the gown is form-fitted to my butt. Thanks everyone!

Assuming your wedding is indoors, you shouldn't need hose, but if you do buy them, they should be nude. You're wrong that they'll never be seen. I look at photos of our reception and there are many times when I see my ankles as my dress twirls while I dance.

I can't imagine why anyone would wear pantyhose under their wedding dress. That is very outdated. Under your wedding dress, no one even sees your legs!

I only asked because I was so sweaty under my gown (with a skirt similar to yours) that I couldn't imagine trying to pull up hosiery under it!

If you're going to wear it, I'd choose the nude without the shapewear. Or maybe a garter belt and seamed back stockings instead? Then you could wear whatever undies you wanted (and it might not be as hot)!

Black is odd, but if no one will be able to see I don't think it matters

Actually, I found blue shapewear panties! https://www.spanx.com/undie-tectable-lace-hi-hipster-panty

And on top of that, I'm wearing the Wolford seamed back tights in Sahara/black: http://www.wolfordshop.com/hosiery/tights/individual-10-back-seam-tights/18563.html?dwvar_18563_color=7005

We're doing a first look outdoors to get some daytime photos. If I get hot, then I'll take them off and stash them somewhere. There are worse things than having a pair of Wolfords!

    Thanks all for your input.

Don't do hose. Your legs will be hot as fuck and the crinoline will stick to/snag on the hose.

Black nylons/pantyhose should only be worn with black shoes.

If you think you'll be cold (it says your wedding is in December), wear a shade of nude that best matches your skin tone.

I would say keep the cutesy bride/I do panties to change into after the wedding. Wear something practical under your dress because you will get sweaty. And I opted for spanx (the bike short kind) so that my thighs wouldn't rub together.
