Horseshoes? Cute? Cheesy?

Jessica, on September 2, 2019 at 3:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Thoughts?

So my wedding venue is at a western cowboy themed place. And I thought the idea of getting horseshoes and painting them either gold or white and using those as wedding favors would be a cute idea? Horseshoes represent good luck and will be tied up with a piece of twine or ribbon so guests could hang them in their homes? I was thinking of attaching a little note to them that says like “ Lucky in love”

They go with your theme well! FYI If you display them like in the first picture, I always heard that the horseshoe open-end should "face up" so the "luck" doesn't run-out.

The display looks cute but I personally would not want a horse shoe as a favor.

If you wanted to get the horseshoes cheap or free, go to local horse farms/ranches. They have used horseshoes that they can give you, rather than them throwing them away. You’ll just have to be sure to clean them off before you paint them.

I love the idea! Perfect for your theme. You could also display it in a wooden wall like the first picture and use for your sitting cards/favors. Like this is guarantee people would take it because they need to know where to sit.

If you do this, make sure you clean them REALLY well. I grew up riding (25 years at the barn) and used shoes are not normally something I want inside my house without thorough sanitation. Also, like a PP said, be ready for people to not take their favor as many would probably not find a place for it in their homes. However, any leftover shoes could be put together by a blacksmith into a piece of artwork that you and your FS could have in your home. Try Google for tons of ideas on that front. Overall, a cute idea that would fit well with your venue.

I’d soak them in warm, soapy water and add some vinegar if there’s any stubborn dirt. Then use a metal bristled brush to scrub everything off.
