"Horseshoe" Banquet Table Seating

MsFtoMrsR, on May 13, 2016 at 1:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I am wondering if anyone else has done/is doing a rectangular "horseshoe" design of long banquet-style tables for your reception? We plan to do this, and we will be seated at the top of the horseshoe. I am also hoping to put the dance floor in the middle of the horseshoe. This will be an outdoor wedding. My question is about seating couples and numbering tables - since they are long "banquet" tables, should we seat couples across from one another? Or next to each other? My worry is that they would have to walk all the way around the horseshoe to get to the other side of the table if they are seated across from one another. Also, I've created table numbers, but now I'm concerned that people will think it's wierd that couples are "split" at two different table numbers if they happen to be next to each other but fall between tables. I hope this makes sense! I'd appreciate any advice/input or experience that that you have with this type of seating plan! Buffet catered - 100 people.

I'd vote to sit couples next to each other!

The table number confusion did happen once at a wedding I attended. We looked at the seating chart and couldn't figure out why a married couple were at separate tables, and people started trying to trade seat assignments Smiley smile The second we went to sit down everything realized that some tables were lined up end to end and it all made sense!

Definitely sit couples next to each other. I wouldn't want to yell across the table to talk to my FH.

Another vote for sitting couples next to each other.

As to table numbers, I would start making the seating chart and see how many people this will impact. For example, say it is worked out that only one couple is going to have the cards saying two different table numbers- if that's the case I might just shoot them a heads up so they're not confused. If it's going to happen to a ton of people, I'd just let it go...everyone will figure it out once they walk into the room.

Maybe put a 2ft gap after a couple tables if you are worried about people having to walk far around.

I am doing a similar lay out!! BUT I didn't like the look of long banquet style tables so instead I am doing square tables. Here's a pic that's cut in half and it's in process but you get the idea. I didn't want any confusion either so I thought this would be the best option

Thanks, all. I agree that it will probably be best to seat couples next to each other. Unfortunately, gaps between tables won't work because of our tablecloths and runners, etc. - but it shouldn't be too far to walk around.

@Muffinbutton - I think you make a great point about first doing the chart and then gauging how many people the table # issue will affect. I think we will do that.

I appreciate all of your input!
