Hors d'oeuvres, food station and cocktails

#TiffaniLovesJohn, on May 28, 2018 at 5:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi everyone - we are having approx 80 folks. It was suggested thru here that we have a seat for everyone. I completely agree with you. So we are changing over to this layout. However, now I am questioning that we have enough food. This is what we are thinking.

6p - start time with drinks, cold app station (shrimp cocktail, crudité, fruit, bruschetta) and passed hot appetizers.

6:30p - they announce us, first dance, cake cutting, maybe one speech by our kids (def will not be more than one speech)

6:45p - more hot apps being passed around

7:15p - filet slider carving station and pasta station open

8:30a - dessert table is now open

9:00p - end time

My questions are do we need another food station? If so, any thoughts on what kinds?

Do we need more apps? We have enough hot apps for everyone to have 6 pieces.

We were thinking of maybe leaving the bar open until 10:00p and then having the DJ announce that for those who are interested we will be hosting an after party at my FHs. This is within walking distance of the reception.

We are getting married on November 10th.

Thoughts?

I’m thinking something like a pasta with 2 different sauces. But no meatballs or sausage. We are also having ceaser salad or maybe a candied pecan and feta cheese salad. The caterer says it’s enough but folks on here have lots of opinions so wanted to find out what others thought. Also, if folks had other ideas. Menu isn’t set in stone but we def don’t want to do a traditional wedding reception dinner meal.

I think it sounds good to me. Will there be any bread of some sort like dinner rolls or bread sticks? They are great to have because 1. who doesn't love carbs and 2. People can fill up on it if they are still hungry Smiley laugh

I hadn’t even thought of that but yes, I will def add it to the menu. That was the reason, I wanted to do a pasta station because pasta is filling.

Your menu sounds great! I was going to suggest salad but you've got it covered. Yum.

Can I make a few suggestions?

    * Cake cutting at 6:30 seems off. People may also assume that's all the food there is and think the dessert bar is open. I would cut cake at 8:30 which means cake + dessert is now avail.

    * I think after your first dance and speeches, you might not need more hot appetizers but go ahead and open the filet and pasta station. So perhaps have that open at 6:45? Don't want to rush people through dinner, especially since there are some fun stations that'll take a little time.

    * Maybe your cake cutting can be flexible. Plan for 8:30 but if everyone is done with dinner earlier and looking antsy, you or DOC can help move up cake timeline. 30 minutes for pics, cut/pass out cake, eat cake, and leave venue may be tight. Will there be coffee served during cake time? That might be appreciated.

I like all of your action stations, passed appetizers and fun flow!

P.S. Find out if your guest have nut or dairy allergies (and maybe put salad dressings on the side). We had several people with these allergies so we needed to change our fancy salad (like yours) to a simple garden salad, just in case.

Yes, there will be a coffee and tea station throughout. We were going to cut the cake just so we could have the photographer take the pics. We aren’t going to keep him for the entire reception. It was suggested that we just stage the cake cutting. Then the DJ could announce something along the lines of more apps will be coming around again. We were trying to get everything done so we could have it photographed professionally. I’ll have to give it more thought now on the timeline.

I think you will have ample food! Sounds good and like a fun time. You do not have to take time out to sit and eat.

I would add another 7:15pm station. Maybe a mashed potatoes bar or something to fill people up. This will also help with non meat eaters.
