HORROR- Cards Stolen!! PSA

Jessica , on October 15, 2016 at 9:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Http://www.wkbw.com/news/second-couple-says-cards-missing-from-their-card-box-after-wedding-reception So I saw this in my local news. 2 sets of couples had their cards stolen at the same venue!!! So sad! They are apparently looking into employees there. It's a very reputable venue and just goes to show we can never be too careful. Does anyone know a couple that this has happened to before??

That's so sad. I heard this could happen. They say guest steal then but it has to be employees.

We had a few of our cards found opened in the bathroom garbage. It's a sad fact that it does happen. I have heard of stories in my area if the entire box being stolen or guests checking to make sure the couple received their card; only to find out that it was missing. Unfortunately, people steal. It's a sad but true fact in society.

How much of a dick do you have to be to steal cards and money from a couple on what's supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives? So gross.

So awful!! Would the best way to prevent this be to have a locked card box inside the reception room?

Anyone have a locking card box recommendation?

Let's just say KARMA! That's so sad. I've never had a friend go through this. A locking card box? They can just pick it up and take it with them. Maybe once the cocktail hour ends and everyone is in the dinning hall eating, a family member can remove it from the table?

I've known people that this has happened to, very sad. I assigned one of my friends to take all the gifts and cards to her car after dinner. I forgot to tell the venue this and they busted her reaching her had in the card box to grab them all- they were all over it Smiley smile

That is horrible! And I have been wondering about the same thing. How to keep them safe? Like I don't want to have to sit there and watch the box all night, that's just craziness. How sad for them, and the people who left them as well.

It really is so sad. I plan to have maybe FMIL take cards out of the box throughout the night.

It's happened to three friends. Twice it was family members (cousins) and one they couldn't figure it out. Thankfully our wedding is small enough that we truly know the people that will attend but it's still a risk. We're doing a deep, top loading, shadowbox. In order to take the cards they would be pretty obvious.

It happened to my mother in law. After the reception they put everything in their hotel room. It was a a casino, and I guess people were in and out of the room partying. The next morning, they found all cards missing. The only people who were in the room was close friends and family. Shame shame

I'm not sure what we're doing yet, but we aren't having a card box for this reason. I don't think a lock is going to help you.

We are doing a huge (3 tier 24" box) I used industrial Velcro all around the top, and glued it to a table runner that will be pinned to the table cloth. Hopefully it works and no one gets into the cards. It's a public venue and this is what they advised. It happens sadly.

It was on the news here a few years ago a couple had 10,000 dollars worth of gifts and cards stolen. They also left them at their outdoor venue overnight tho......

Ugh people are so shitty. Also, remember to be careful with posting things on Facebook like when you'll be on your honeymoon if you don't personally know all of your Facebook friends very well. I've heard that theifs will browse wedding announcements to see when the couple will be out of town with a house full of gifts and money.

I've never known anyone this happened to, but I know it's a real fear.

Our venue actually removed the cards during the reception and locked them away in their own safe and gave them to us at the end of the evening. It was a private space, so I wasn't worried about it, but that was a nice added security.

Oh yes - every older woman I know can tell you stories of weddings they've attended where cards and even boxed gifts disappeared! You can safeguard against it by making sure the gift/card table is well away from the exits, and designating a trusted person to collect them throughout the evening and store them in a locked room or locked in someone's car trunk. And by knowing all of your guests, even the +1s, and any aggravating factors (drug addictions, past pilfering and other behaviors that set off warning signals)

It just happened to us , the venue we rented made us use their security which was only there by their own admission 1 hour. The event manager and general manager both noticed cards out of the box but said nothing the general manager actually stacked them neat . Also the event manager left a door open that wasn't supposed to be and also it was not where we had agreed up by us ....I think they are negligent
My new wife is remembering this rather than our good memories
