Hopefully it fits

Caitlin, on September 19, 2020 at 9:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

So I recently ordered my wedding dress and I did inform them that I am actively losing weight and will be getting plastic surgery eventually (Lipo and Fat Transfer). They said they can always go down a couple sizes with alterations but i really hope they sized it atleast one size down than i actually am now. My dress will be here around December so i will have until May to adjust everything. Should I worry this much??

I don't think so. It's easier to take a dress in than out. I am worried I may not fit into my dress for the opposite reason. I got it in and I knew it was going to fit tighter than the sample but didn't expect it to be as tight as it was. I was bloating and on my period when my dress came in so that could also play a part in it. If it's too big they can always make it smaller. If it's too small they can't really make it bigger.

You may have time to actually get another size down if you lose a considerably amount of weight. How long is the shipping time?

I really just hope and pray it just hits the right spots. It is a mermaid dress so it is very form fitting but if i lose enough in certain spots ill probably be okay.

I totally understand. Mine is very tight and form fitting in the top. I was kinda of having dress doubts because I feel like I should have chosen a more forgiving fabric/dress. But I can't change my mind now. I wasn't originally going to wear any shapewear but I'm going to now and hope it helps. I'm sure it will fit amazing. Losing weight is tough but we can do it!

I know dresses cannot go more than two sizes down so maybe go smaller but be sure you lose all that weight but if you are getting lipo then maybe that is the safe bet?

It depends on what type of dress you’ll be wearing. If it’s a ball gown type dress then I feel like it’ll work because only the top would need to be altered.

But if the seamstress thinks that it’ll be fine, then she probably knows best!

Don't worry about it until December. You don't know if there will be a problem, but if there is, you can't do anything about it now. It's easier to stop worrying about something if you give yourself permission to worry about it later.

I dealt with a similar situation. I fell in love with a dress that happened to be a size 12....I'm a size 6. The attendant of course said "Oh it won't be a problem! You can always go down sizes!". Well, let me tell you, when I brought the dress to the seamstress they looked at me like I was crazy. They explained that depending on the build of the dress, 1 size down maybe 2 can be done. Anything more and they could potentially have to resew the entire dress, if it can be done at all. After it was finished, the had to nearly cut the bustier top in half and resew it, they did their best to cover the seams but it was noticeable. And the bill for the alterations was outrageous. So be careful how much weight you lose, you could end up having to buy a brand new dress.
