Honoring lost loved ones

Does anybody have suggestions on how to honor lost loved ones. My grandfather passed away about a year ago, his grandmother passed away in December and most importantly his father passed when he was a kid. Is it appropriate to honor those who have passed at a wedding?

We had candles at the alter that represented our loved ones who had passed. We had them lit by their closest relative as part of the processional before the mothers were seated. We are Catholic, so we made sure these individuals were mentioned during the "Lord, hear our prayer" part.
