Honoring deceased father

Samantha, on April 30, 2020 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

My father passed away very suddenly about 9 months ago, and I am trying to think of how to honor him at our wedding next April. For the reception, my fiance and I have already decided to do our first dance to the same song my parents used at their wedding, and we are going to hang one of his tuxedo jackets at an honorary spot at our head table. My brother will be doing the father-daughter dance with me, to the song my dad & I had picked out long ago. I am mostly struggling with the ceremony.. we are getting married in a Catholic church and my brother will be walking me down the aisle. I was thinking of putting a single rose on the front pew where he would have sat.

Any other ideas?

Maybe Have Someone In The Bridal Party Hold A Picture Of Him Down The Aisle And Then Sit It In The Chair With The Rose? And Move It To The Reception After

I've seen brides put a photo of their deceased fathers in tiny frame charms and attach it to their bouquet, so they're together all day! I think it's so sweet and a memory to cherish.

Hello! My dad passed away, and to honor him we are framing a picture of me with him and putting it on the first chair in the first row with a bouquet of flowers. I've attached the reference photo that I gave to my florist. My mom will be walking me down the isle, and I think we will stop at the chair, and be joined by my fiance. Id like to the place a flower on the chair (though I don't know if that will work). Then the next day we (mom/siblings/ new husband) will go to his grave and put that bouquet at his head stone.

I don't love to draw attention to his death, I like when things are a bit more subtle.
The other thing I wanted to do is incorporate his wedding band into my bouquet. Unfortunately I can't do this because he lost it when he got too sick. Honoring deceased father 1

That's a great idea! I think having a photo of him is a great idea. Or do you have anything he gave you (a necklace, earrings, or something) that you can either wear, or attach to your bouquet?

I also went to a wedding where the groom's father had passed away of a heart attack, and they left notes at everyone's seat saying that in lieu of favors, they had made a donation to the American Heart Association in honor of the groom's father. So maybe something like that!

My father passed away in 2008. When I got engaged in January 2019, I picked the date, 10/10/20, which is his birthday, because it falls near my school's fall break. I thought it would be a good way of honoring him. I think all of your ideas are wonderful. I hadn't thought of having a picture of my father at the reception, but I might do that, too. My brother is walking me down the aisle and my mom will do the first half of the father-daughter dance with me. A dear friend of the family who has been like a father to me will dance with me during the second half.
