Honeymoons affected by covid-19

Shannon, on March 23, 2020 at 4:10 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 8
Wanted to leave a place for everyone to share what is happening with honeymoon travel and how you’re handling it. I.e. getting refunds, post poning etc.

Personally my situation- wedding June 27 (personally I think the ceremony won’t be affected, but we will have a better idea of that in the next two weeks I believe)
However our honeymoon final deposit is due May 14 which I believe we will still be in the throes of this. With there being a travel ban from the country we are going to (Grenada (sandals)), I’m unwilling to pay the final deposit and not get that money back (travel insurance does not protect from a pandemic).
The only thing we’ve paid for is our flights and room deposit, so I’d rather cut my losses than shell out even more. My hope is that the airline will let us change our flight for free and we can reschedule with Sandals. (I haven’t heard great news about Sandals response in supporting people through this, which is why I’m unwilling to pay the final amount to them). I do have a travel agent so if it comes to the need to change anything I’ll be looking to see what she recommends.

That is so sweet of you to post this.

My Wedding is in Oct. and I hope the COVID-19 will be over by then, however, FH and I have decided to do a planned elopement instead just in case some guests are still nervous.

Also, I didn't know that travel insurance doesn't cover pandemics. I hope everything will work out for y'all.

    Best Wishes and Good luck

    Stay well everyone!

Update: I did hear that sandals has closed all operations until May 31. They are not booking any new trips for now and are requesting that people do not call about this as they are calling all guests to discuss reschedule if affected.

Hi, just wanted to share my experience with travel insurance and the pandemic. We spoke with a an insurance agent to clear this up a while ago when all of this chaos was still very hypothetical.

She told us that if we were to cancel just because of coronavirus concerns on our end then it would not be covered. BUT if you are literally unable to take your honeymoon due to travel bans or anything else outside of your control then it would be covered. So I would check with your insurance company to clarify this.

I guess it will help others if we share the travel insurance companies we’ve spoken with so we can find options.

I spoke with Travel Insured International- they will not cover missed travel related to a pandemic due to a travel ban in place. They will only cover if you have to cancel due to being quarantined.

My wedding is June 26th. We are waiting to make any decisions. My fiancé did an amazing job planning a honeymoon to spend 5 days in Italy then a 12 day cruise out of Spain. It looks like that will be cancelled. But we are lucky enough that royal Caribbean, air bnb, and our flights can all be refunded or given a credit for the future.
Good luck to everyone and keep your heads up!!!!

Our wedding is June 13th, and we are supposed to leave for Belize on June 15th. I am still hoping our wedding might be okay (though we do have a backup plan in place) but we are worried about our honeymoon. At this point, we could still cancel at the resort and get a full refund, but only if we cancel in the next 2 weeks. We are worried about international travel still being affected and my fiancé not being able to return to work after for 2 weeks (his employer has voiced concerns about this). It's looking like we are going to cancel our trip, and we might end up losing all of the money for the flights because I am a medical student and we don't have any other time to travel, and we declined insurance on our flights. I am heartbroken and saddened, but trying to remember that everyone is affected by this and it is out of my control.

We got married on March 14, 2020, and our honeymoon was supposed to be March 16-20. We had booked and planned flying from TX to FL, and cruising to the Bahamas on Carnival Liberty. EVERYTHING changed quite quickly, because that was the weekend that everything quite literally hit the fan.

Because of all the panic leading up to the weekend of our wedding, my fiance suggested that we should cancel the cruise (but the call wouldn't even go through because Carnival was having phone issues because of long call lines). I went ahead and cancelled our round-trip flights.. and thank goodness for United, because after you cancel, you can use that same reservation number to re-schedule. (Because of COVID-19, all change fees are waived on that travel)

On March 13, at about 10:30 pm, Carnival sent me an e-mail that cancelled all cruises departing between March 14 & April 9 with 2 options: full refund or re-schedule with $300 on-board credit. We decided on re-scheduling, because we would still like to go on our actual honeymoon at some point when all this blows over. We made a quick trip up to Broken Bow, OK for our little "Plan B Honeymoon".

Overall, I think most travel and hotels are being MORE than accommodating since this is a world-wide pandemic. I hope you figure it out, and I hope that y'all still get to go!
