Honeymoon

Any suggestions on where to begin to book a honeymoon? My fiancé, Ryan and I have decided we want to go to an all inclusive resort. Do you suggest going to a travel agent? Booking on our own? How far in advance should we book?

If you don't have past experience with all inclusives and this is your first time then i would book through an agent. Otherwise, its super simple to book yourself online. I would book far in advance (5-8 months). Ive found with all inclusives the prices only dramatically drop in the last couple weeks and i personally would not be willing to wait until that close to my wedding to sort my honeymoon out.

We are looking at Sandals resorts ourselves, and are going through a travel agent. In my opinion, booking through someone who has experience firsthand is preferable. They can offer locations based on what you want and they also will have more insight on what you are getting, which rooms are worth booking, local attractions, etc. Added bonus is they can help you with cancelled/delayed flights in the event that something happens. We just met with one today, actually, and she made a few points I never thought of - “ocean view does not mean beachfront, you could be looking out over a residential area with the ocean way over to the side” for example.

We chose Sandals and booked with a travel agent. But, before I booked with the agent I called the resort and got all the information myself. The price quoted to me by the travel agent was exactly the same. I always investigate before making decisions. Make sure you purchase travel insurance for your trip in case anything happens. We made monthly payments until it was paid off, so we wouldn't overwhelm ourselves financially. We also booked far enough in advance to do this (Feb, 2018). With everything included its worth it.

My family did several all inclusive vacations growing up. My parents had an agent because they do more than just book your room. It gets at smaller things, like safe and reliable transportation to your resort from the airport. I'm usually all for figuring it our yourself on my trips since there's so many resources online these days, but for something as big of an investment as all inclusive, in a place where you may not speak the language and your cell phone might not be available as normal, the agent is probably worth it. I do like the suggestion above of double checking your agent's pricing directly through the resort once they help you find it though.
