You can divide those costs up if they're expensive too. For example, you could make a $150 excursion 3 gifts of $50 or 6 gifts of $25. If guests are willing and able to contribute more than 1 piece, they should be able to say they want to purchase 3 gifts of $25 to give you $75/$150.
