Honeymoon with Covid-19

Elizabeth, on February 8, 2021 at 9:27 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 19
How did or are you handling your Honeymoon (if you had or are having one after the wedding) in regards to the 72 hr covid test prior to traveling?

We are looking at options but while doing so I realized if we take the test before the wedding, we would be exposed at the wedding, not sure if that will be an issue, and if we do it after the wedding I don't know if we would get results back on time or if it would even be allowed. To my understanding when you take a test you're supposed to quarantine after, at least for doctor appointments. Did you have to do that? Did you push your honeymoon date further?

We decided not to do one for financial reasons and are just taking 3 days together to enjoy being married. We plan on doing it later this year but probably traveling inside our state.

There's no point taking a test before the wedding. If you take a test, you need to quarantine after to make sure you don't re-expose yourself - even after the wedding. Rapid tests cannot detect if you've *just* been exposed.

I would look into a more local minimoon, or putting off the honeymoon for a few months until it's safer. A lot of people delay their honeymoons (we delayed ours about 5 months), and it's even more common now.

I totally understand wanting to be safe, but I don’t think there’s really a right way of testing before your honeymoon. If you do it “the right” way, you will quarantine for the wedding and then risk exposure at the wedding before your honest moon!
It’s going to be a risk it or don’t kind of thing!

Because of all the crazy current testing regulations and not wanting to risk not being able to be tested to get back into the US, we're delaying our honeymoon until next year and just going on a minimoon to Florida.

We are just doing a honeymoon to Florida. We don’t have enough PTO to quarantine before and after travel lol

That's why we cancelled our cruise. We were originally supposed to sail to the Bahamas 9 days after the wedding. We felt that we couldn't responsibly test and quarantine. I'm a teacher, so I'm out for summers, but The Honey wouldn't have enough time off to take twenty days of quarantine and a six day honeymoon.

Rapid tests are really only accurate once you've started exhibiting symptoms... which could be two days or fourteen days after exposure (generally, more like five). A cousin got married in January (wedding of only 30 people), and 27 tested positive. Nobody had symptoms until they had already returned from their honeymoon.

We're both "frontline workers," so I'll have my second dose of the vaccine at the end of the month. We should be fine to fly by then, so we're going to the Key West and Sanibel Island.

I think you only need the test to come back into the US, right? Are there requirements for entry where you're going?

I'd pick somewhere in the States, tbh. You can have great fun here!

We are planning on Hawaii. But to do it properly with their testing requirements, we can't go until 3 to 4 days after the wedding.

Most places need a test before entry but we were thinking to do something within the US like PR or Florida, we live in NJ so wanted to get away from the cold for a bit. We actually both work from home so we don't have an issue with quarantine after we get back, I'm more concerned about the exposure of the wedding prior. So we may just push it a couple of weeks to make sure we are okay and not spread it in case we did get it.

Pre-COVID, our honeymoon plan was an Alaskan cruise, but we quickly scrapped that idea early last year. Instead, we did a mini-moon at a cabin near a park in our state. We plan on doing some sort of honeymoon this summer, but most likely a road trip to a national park or something like that. I personally would not feel comfortable leaving the country this year.

We are eloping in the adirondack mountains in July and plan to do a "mini-moon" and stay there for the week after and go camping. We absolutely love camping there and hiking (which is why we are getting married there) and then we are planning to do a "real" honeymoon when traveling and life is a little more safe/normal. It may be post poned until next year, but we are ok with that as we would like to enjoy our honeymoon and not have to be stressed about the restrictions and risk of COVID.

We live and are getting married in California on the central coast. For our honeymoon we're driving out to a private cabin at Big Bear Lake (also in CA). The cabin has 2 bedrooms and comes with a hot tub, grill, and a kayak for use at the lake. This particular one also gives you a bottle of wine with your stay! There are plenty of hiking trails nearby, the lake is about 3 blocks away, and Bear Mountain Ski Resort is just down the road if there's enough snow and we feel like hitting the slopes. We plan to buy food for the week on the way up, but leave some room to grab food from local places a couple of nights. For that, we literally just plan on picking up the food and bringing it back to the cabin. The cabin is an Air B&B, so all the check in stuff is done online and the cabin will have been fully sanitized and empty for 24hrs before our arrival. We're both essential workers, so being out of work for extra quarantine time isn't really a great option for us. Finances also don't like that idea. We plan to do a trip to Molokai, HI for an anniversary (maybe 5th?) and a bigger trip to Bora Bora for our 10th anniversary. Kind of figured that we'd prefer the honeymoon to be more relaxed and not really have demands on our time so we can just enjoy each other without having to worry about dinner reservations or snorkeling appointments or whatever.

I get married on saturday, we’re planning our honeymoon for the end of the year. it stinks but the places we want to go have tight restrictions and i don’t think we’d be able to enjoy it to the extent we would if we wait it out. we’re planning for november

I love that! Not sure if we have something Iike that near me but I'll look into it. I also love the idea of doing bigger honeymoon celebrations at special milestone years, may have to borrow that idea!

Also, we were originally going to Bora Bora but due to new restrictions we were told by our agent that it would be super restricted even if they did open up anytime soon. We’re getting married in March so that’s very soon so that’s why we decided on Hawaii

Yes we’re planning a minimoon somewhere local (Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe or Catalina Island) and then doing Bora Bora following our larger celebration/vow renewal in 2023.

As others have suggested, I’d probably wait at least a week or 2 weeks after the weddding, and then head out for the honeymoon.
