Honeymoon Upgrades?

alexisdemetra, on September 11, 2018 at 1:39 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

My FH and I are headed on a big honeymoon after our wedding to London, Edinburgh, and Ireland. We're so excited! It's our first trip outside of the country together.

I've been using a travel agent to book everything, but so many people have asked if I've asked the places we're booking for free honeymoon upgrades. Honestly it's like every other person. Do places still do this still? Do I ask when we show up? We're traveling in an off season for the UK & Ireland so I don't expect these places to be full-up. Just not sure if it's ok to ask or not. Either way, I'm so excited for this trip!

I didn't find that very many places did this... The hotel we stayed at in Hawaii gave us a bottle of champagne, but other than that we didn't get anything extra because it was our honeymoon.

    Hello there!!

It's my understanding that some places still do honeymoon upgrades, but it's sort of a thing of the past now due to overbooking on planes and such. It can't hurt mentioning it when you're checking in for your flight or to your hotel or to the flight attendant, especially if it's the off season. I've heard stories of people getting complimentary champagne or decorations in your hotel room. The worst thing that could happen is that someone congratulates you for getting married, and that's not really bad at all. Smiley smile

You're going to have so much fun on your trip!! Where are you most looking forward to visiting on your honeymoon?

Omg have the BEST time! I would call in advance and ask. Hotels in Europe are very accommodating (from my experience) they simply upgraded my friend and I for traveling in an off season.

Where in Ireland are you staying, I stayed in Dublin for a week and the Irish are some of the kindest people I have ever encountered.

London is amazing too, I would recommend visiting Camden they have an amazing market. If you like musicals/theater I got inexpensive seats in the Apollo Victoria Theater which was BEAUTIFUL and the cocktails were delicious.

Thank you so much for your info! I definitely don't want to look like I'm begging for special treatment, but I also know I will be legitimately excited to tell everyone we just got married!

I can't wait!! I'm such a planner type and the honeymoon is blocked out with hotels and flights and things, but there's a LOT of downtime. We can't wait to explore the towns, find a pub, meet some locals, and drink nice scotch. Also we're doing the Harry Potter tour in London and cannot WAIT for that either. Smiley smile

Thank you so so much! I wasn't sure if calling before sounded like I was demanding it? I'm a people please so always hyper-aware of those things haha. Ireland we're staying in Dublin for two nights (we splurged and are staying in the Clontarf Castle!!) and then driving out west to Galway to do the Cliffs of Moher and explore that side of the country. I was actually a theatre major and we're seeing Macbeth at the Globe!! Thank you so much for your tips!

Occasionally! Have you asked your travel agent about this? We have been to hotels & restaurants for graduations or anniversaries, and when I've written it in the comment line of reservations we have sometimes been given room upgrades or free bottles of champagne or dessert! I wouldn't ask, I'd just tell the person checking in with it's your anniversary (or where husband and wife shirts so they know)! Usually they ask what you are doing on your vacation anyway.

That's so nice! That way you have nothing to worry about while you're there! And HAVE SO MUCH FUN at the Harry Potter tour. I am TOTALLY jealous. Smiley smile

As long as your kind, I don't see why the concierge would take it the wrong way.

I LOVED Dublin! I recommend Lilly's Cafe, it's right in the city, it's a small coffee shop ran by a family and everything I tried I loved. I'm so excited for you and wish I could go back soon. Safe travels!

I’ve been telling hotels that it’s our honeymoon when we book them, and so far we haven’t gotten anything Smiley sad hoping maybe they’ll at least give us a bottle of champagne or something!

I don't think that anywhere we are going or anything we are doing would offer anything. My plan is literally to just tell everyone and if we get any awesome perks, great. If not, that is cool too. I hope you have luck and get something fun and great Smiley smile We all deserve it! LOL

I have just been told to be that annoying touristy couple that tells everyone it is your honeymoon. You never know what upgrades you may receive.

Your travel agent may also be able to get you special deals with it being your honeymoon.

My biggest conflict is the plane. They say you can definitely get bumped up on a flight if it is your honeymoon so we thought about wearing bride and groom shirts but FH and I prefer to kinda dress up comfortably when flying so not sure which direction to go with that.

Tell the flight attendant on the flight. I’m a flight attendant, and while I can’t upgrade you, I always like to give out extra snacks/drinks/tips and try to do whatever I can to make the flight special.
