Honeymoon to Hawaii — covid tests

Brittany, on May 9, 2021 at 3:57 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5
Just wondering if anyone has taken their honeymoon to Hawaii or plans to in the next few months. My fiancé and I are going on our honeymoon there on July 4th, but we’re now just seeing the really strict testing requirements. We didn’t have any issue testing, but we’re struggling now that we know they only accept about a dozen “trusted testing” places. Our area doesn’t seem to have any of these. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice if they’ve done this? Do any of the trusted testers do mail in tests? Help!! Wondering if we should just refund this and stay local for the honeymoon.

We are going to St. Lucia in two weeks for our honeymoon and we also have to get tested before we can go. We were told we have to get the test that takes a day to come back (not the rapid test). I’m hoping it’s not as complicated as your process! Good luck, girl!

Being an isolated island in the middle of the ocean, no matter what country you're connected to, Hawaii has a far-more-limited resource of hospital beds. I have to just let you know: all my friends who are native Hawaiians have implored tourists and visitors not to come to the island until they have a better handle on their numbers (which may not be until fall/winter).

It makes sense they want to be more than certain on guests. Again, in all fairness, I would perhaps re-evaluate a summer honeymoon there if I were you. I get it if you're already booked, but extra tourism from the mainland does cause extra stress on the hospital system on Hawaii.

Yes! We are going in 2 weeks! The testing is a hassle but completely makes sense why they want people to test before coming to Hawaii. We found a place to do it that's near the airport, about an hour drive. It's not ideal but we'll drive down there and back on Sunday and our flight leaves wednesday morning. That was the cheapest option! They did offer rapid testing at the airport the day of your flight but it was $200 per person and that felt like too much. I think they also had mail in options but I didn't really look into that. Good luck!

I personally think it'd be best to hold off on going to Hawaii for now. You're much better off going to an island where there is more relaxing/lying by the beach and pool compared to exploring and sightseeing. Hawaii is already so expensive as is so it is not worth it to me to spend all that money when so many things are shut down or there are so many restrictions. We had to test prior to Aruba and Jamaica but those trips felt worth it because we enjoyed the resort and beach. We did a tour in Aruba but it was just us and because of that we didn't need to wear our masks the entire time. Hawaii has been the most difficult out of everywhere w/ COVID restrictions. That was our original vacation last year but with half the island shut down and the particularity for the testing we passed on it.

I fly to Hawaii monthly for work and the Covid testing is pretty straightforward. I fly out of SFO and United actually partners with a few places to do it really easily. Whichever airline you use should be able to point you in the right direction. Just use one of the ones on the Hawaii Safe Travels website and you’ll be good to go. Lots of outdoor options in Hawaii so you can spread out if you’re nervous!
