What is everyone’s preference on doing your honeymoon right after the wedding vs. waiting a couple of months?

We're having our honeymoon right after the wedding. I like the idea of having such a big day with family and friends and immediately going into a week long vacation with just the two of us. I feel like it would make the wedding high last even longer, while just going back home after the wedding would feel like a bummer.

I totally understand why some people wait a few months though. Sometimes it's to do a bigger/longer trip, sometimes it's for the weather of the destination, plenty of reasons to go either route really! That's just our preference Smiley smile

I would definitely prefer right after the wedding. If there's a budgeting issue, I would do my best to take at least a few days off after the wedding, even if it's just to stay at home.

We waited a couple weeks after ours. I think it's ok to wait if you want to save money or the timing is better that way

We are waiting a month before our honeymoon to Disney. I also had obligations for work travel right after the wedding, so it worked out better that way. I don't see anything wrong with delaying the honeymoon. Do what works for you!

Last time, 23 years ago, we left for our honeymoon the next morning. This time my FH and I are waiting about 7 months and taking our 3 combined older kids along on our “honeymoon”. It’s one less thing I have to worry about right now.

We're going right after the wedding! We'll be leaving 2 days after our wedding day for our honeymoon. I couldn't imagine having to go back to work right after such a big day, but I know some people have a hard time getting off work around their wedding.

We are going a couple days after

Primarily because if we pushed it back it would be xmas or new years and we want to have those traditional holidays with family. And we don't want to push it back to spring.

We are leaving the night after our wedding. We wanted to still feel that newly wed excitement on our honeymoon.

Right after the wedding made more sense for us to take off work at one time rather than two times. Even though it’s not the reason we initial chose to do it right after though, I’m excited for the relaxation. The last two weeks the stress has caused me to develop a jaw clenching habit and my back is tense with pain. I honestly don’t think I’m that stressed because mostly everything is done but my body is begging for a break! Lol So excited for this trip.

I think it depends on each couple's situation and preference. We are waiting for many reasons. It gives us a chance to put more aside for the honeymoon, the weather at our destination will be best several months after our wedding date, we will have a chance to build up more vacation days so we can spend as much time as possible on our honeymoon, and we will need some downtime after our wedding and before the holidays and our son's wedding. This is what works best for us. Some couples had much longer engagements or planning timelines and are able to do it back to back.

I would have liked to do my honeymoon right after. However, due to my job and time-off AND my husband being in the military, we are going to be having our honeymoon about 2 months after our wedding.

We went the Monday after our Saturday wedding, and I'm SO happy we did. It would have felt so weird to just go home & go back to work like normal.

We are leaving the day after the wedding. After all the hard work and stress I can't wait to get married and then go vacation for a week together and relax.

Thank you everyone for your input! We thought about waiting a month so we have something to look forward to after the wedding, but also like the idea of unwinding right after the wedding. So we'll probably end up basing it off of cost more than anything

It really depends on the type of location, time of year and weather. Even type of jobs (for example teachers). Some people honestly just prefer to wait a little longer if their trip is more extravagant and need more time to save.

We're getting married in August but want to go to St. Lucia for our honeymoon (which is already booked). It's hurricane season over there during that time so we will be going in February of 2021. Since FH really wants to do something right after ward, we will be having a mini-moon weekend at Disneyland!

FH and I are waiting about six weeks mostly for work reasons. The cruise we ended up picking leaves on Christmas Eve and comes home a few days after New Years. We talked to both our families and they we're okay with us spending our first Christmas as newlyweds just the two of us. We also chose this time because of work schedules. FH is in sports marketing, so he will be busy with lots of games leading up to the holidays. I also wont have to take any time off because my company is shutdown and I wouldn't be working anyways.

We left at 6am the next morning! We took a minimoon for 3 days to Disney.
It was great! You’re still in your wedding “bubble” when you tell people you got married yesterday it’s still so exciting and they are excited for you.
It was also nice to have relaxing, i stressful time with just my husband before heading back to work/school.
We are going on a cruise for our 1yr/honeymoon in a few months. It will be a nice way to celebrate and relax (and splurge because we didn’t have a “real” honeymoon) but, being so far I have a hard time considering it a honeymoon.
To me a nice trip so long after your wedding is just that a nice trip. It looses its honeymoon feel, but that’s just me.
You have to do what works for you.

    We're waiting several months.

Between our jobs and our destination, it simply works out better that way. (Disney/Universal - not great in August, and we work service jobs.)
