honeymoon registry?

Frances, on February 5, 2010 at 1:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering if any of you know a honeymoon wedding registration? It sounds like a great idea because I have my house and pretty much everything. We do like to travel. We want to go to Europe for our honeymoon.

does anyone know a reliable website for honemoon wedding registration?

I appreciate your time.

fd.

    Hi Frances,

There are a lot of great articles that recommend honeymoon registries based on what kind of services you'd like them to provide. I've included two links below that should help you.

Frommer's — Travel Gift Registries: Giving the Ultimate Wedding Present

    http://www.frommers.com/trip_ideas/honeymoon/article.cfm?ideaID=HONEYMOON&articleid=6402&t=Travel

The Wall Street Journal — Getting Guests to Pay for a Honeymoon

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121020123458375115.html

I'll leave you with a quote from the Wall Street Journal Article: "A honeymoon is a perfectly appropriate gift to request," says Peter Post, president of the Emily Post Institute, a Burlington, Vt., etiquette think tank. "There's no objection to it from an etiquette point of view."

    Congratulations!

We used Travelers Joy and I would highly recommend that site. It is very easy to use and set up. They do, however, keep 7.5% of your gift to themselves. We also did a regular registry for folks who wanted to get us a more old fashioned gift. Mayo is right that a lot of guests will give you cash anyway without you asking.

We're using depositagift.com and we love it! they charge 7.5% too, but you get to choose who pays for it, you or your guests (personally, i think most guests will want to cover that cost for you...it's less than tax, shipping and gift wrap) i know a bunch of folks think honeyfund is nice, and they say it's free, but there is still a 2% charge for pay pal, which i find awkward b/c you have to leave the site, plus there are ads all over the site.

depositagift.com is super classy and they include a free wedding website where you can put pics, video, etc (basically what you would pay honeyfund to upgrade to) you can also register for more than just your honeymoon, depending on what you need. basically, it's just a fun, easy site! we're very happy so far.

There is nothing wrong with registering for a honeymoon fund! And it's gross to assume it will be spent in bed the whole time! People go to fun and exotic places to unwind from the stress of wedding planning, and see and experience new things! And if you don't need household items or anything like that, it's a perfectly fine idea! Me and my fiance are gonna go to Disneyworld! ^.^

AND ALSO! Not everyone can afford a honeymoon after a wedding, so I'm sure friends and family would much rather the couple have some relaxing time off elsewhere than have to run home to work and bustle around things that they don't need! And it's the couple's business what they do alone, no one else's!

    We're using depositagift.com

it's been perfect so far! agree with everything michele said...just look around and compare all the options and you'll see. it's the nicest looking site. has the lowest service fee of the ones with a fee; same fee as TJ's but you get to choose who pays for it. and we really like the wedding website deposit a gift includes for free. it's just a nice service...great for your honeymoon, but it's actually not just a honeymoon registry, so you can register for anything you are saving for. a concept that we liked so we could have things be more open and creative if we wanted.

We are using honeyfund also. Our funds are so tight right now we are 98 days until the wedding and I have not even booked it yet. We know where we are going (on a cruise) but we are lucky to know that it ships out about every month from May until Nov. So we are either going to try for a last min booking in May (when the wedding is) or bump it back. Not saying what we get off the honeymoon registry will make a difference b/c we are really not expecting much in general but we are hoping it will cover something extra we were not planning on. Also someone once suggested on this board...that if someone gets us a shore excursion (or money towards one of them) we plan on taking a few pics of us doing it and e-mailing them the pics the same day to say "thank you and look...we are doing it).

We are using honeyfund as well. The thing I like best about it (other than it being free) is that there is no middle man to collect a % of your gifts. Your guests can pay by credit card through paypal - paypal takes maybe 2%, or they can bring or send cash or check. They also can print up a little gift certificate for the item that they picked. I would reccomend upgrading to their premium version as it looks much nicer, no ads for your guests, and there are tons of nice pictures to apply to each gift you select. If you would like to take a peek at ours PM me.

We are also using Honeyfund. We took a lot of care writing the gift descriptions so that people would really get a sense of what our trip would be like I've gotten so many comments from guests of all ages who said how much they enjoyed reading our registry and wishing us the best on our trip. Mostly, people have just sent me checks wish cards saying, "Have fun on the trip," as opposed to actually filling anything out on the site. But they know where their money is going and why we haven't registered for toasters. Feel free

to check it out at www.honeyfund.com/wedding/debandscott

Also, if you're going to Europe, check out www.europeandestinations.com -- we're using it to book our whole trip.

For all the DIY you ladies like to do, this is one area you can DIY and save the fee. Book your stuff yourself with expedia or travelocity (my fav) and let your guests give you cash that you put into the honeymoon yourself.

Jouselle, just because I had a different Opinion doesn't mean you had to call it out. They are opinions. Clearly it's the brides choice in the end. Chill out!

Already saw it on here once, but honeyfund is definitely the best. it is the only one that is basically free, meaning it does not collect fees from you or your guests (unless they use paypal, but in that case they only charge you the actual fees from paypal). they also have a premium version that is ad free for $25 which is likely well worth it. it looks much nicer. We also have just about everything we need any have been struggling to registrar for "stuff". We hope a lot of people buy from us off our honeymoon registry.

What's tacky about asking for money towards a honeymoon? It's no different than asking for a toaster, or blender. You're simply letting your loved ones know what you would like as a gift. As someone purchasing a wedding gift, I would much rather purchase a part of someone's honeymoon. I am totally doing a honeymoon registry! I'm sure my friends and family would be on board as well! Besides, nobody really likes shopping for wedding gifts anyway.

I also love the idea of turning pictures of your trip into "thank you" post cards showing the person what they bought for you, whether it's swimming with dolphins or getting couples' massages.

We are using "Fly us to the Moon" and I believe its nice that guest can buy an experience we will always remember rather than just pots and pans.

On the site our guests can pay with paypal (2% extra) but also have a few free options such as just bring the money to the wedding or account transfer - www.flyustothemoon.co.uk
