Honeymoon Refund?

Sb, on July 14, 2020 at 7:51 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 4
Our honeymoon was originally scheduled for May of this year, but of course it was cancelled due to COVID. We are becoming frustrated due to the fact that our travel agent has not been communicating about our refund. We purchased travel insurance and she says that she submitted the paper work for our cancellation back in March .... it’s July and still no sign of a refund, nor any emails regarding our status. Has anyone else experienced issues with being refunded money for your honeymoon during the pandemic?

I'm about to go through this as well, we're cancelling our Hawaiian honeymoon for August. I would continue to ask the travel agent for a status update at least once per week, and if it's the travel company that hasn't processed the refund yet, request that your travel agent contacts the company to get an update. Maybe also ask for paperwork proof that the cancellation process has been started too? That way, if it still hasn't been cancelled by the time you would have left for your honeymoon, you have proof that the cancellation was requested well ahead of time. Good luck, I hope it gets processed for you soon!

From what I understand most travel insurance does not cover covid related cancellations but pretty much every airline and hotel is offering refunds or at least credits. I did not go through a travel agent for ours so I'm not sure what to do in that regard.

This is what I've heard as well! Can your travel agent not get the funds returned from your hotel and airlines directly? I would definitely start nagging them!

After dealing with the same thing, from my understanding postponements are generally free of charge still. But when cancelling, you have to be able to prove that the hotel/country etc. was not operational...if the country is open for business unfortunately you cant cancel even if its cause of covid. We also have travel insurance but the postponements were always through the travel agent and we never had to use it. I guess the insurance kicks in when you have to cancel
