Honeymoon Now or Later

Dianna, on January 21, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 19

I'm having a destination wedding. My thoughts are we will already be in a different location for the wedding which will be a prepaid fee and time away from work. Our wedding will be at the 4 year mark in our relationship.

Should I save the funds and celebrate our honeymoon the following year which would be our 5 years together anniversary.??? How important is it to go straight to the honeymoon? Will it still feel special even though its delayed?

So many thoughts I need help.....

Hi Dianna, welcome to WeddingWire! It's totally fine not to have your honeymoon right after your wedding, lots of brides choose that route and I'm sure it feels just as special for them as it would right after the wedding day. There's really no wrong answer in choosing when to take your honeymoon, so just do whatever works best for you and your future spouse Smiley smile

I think that it will still feel special even if you decide to delay your honeymoon! My husband and I went on our honeymoon on our one year wedding anniversary and had a great time.

People have delayed honeymoons all the time, but I personally feel like a "honeymoon" a year after your wedding is just a vacation. Of course it's not always possible, but if it is, leaving for your honeymoon shortly after getting married feels more special.

I feel like with a destination wedding that already kinda is your honeymoon? Lol. Why not just stay a couple days after the wedding is over and have a “honeymoon” then, and then another trip for your 1 year?

We went to the 🏖for a few days after.

We then went to Myrtle Beach the week of Christmas.
I didn’t want to do “family” as my Granny passed away not even 3️⃣0️⃣ days after the Wedding and my birthday is the week of Christmas.

We had a destination wedding in Mexico. We stayed an extra few days before and after. We are going on a trip in a few months.. we are calling it a vacation. Does this mean i didn’t have a honeymoon? I’m not too stressed about it honestly.

We’re doing our honeymoon almost a year later. Who can plan and pay for all that and take that much time off work at once?

Totally! Great plan. We did something similar. Our DW wedding was at an amazing resort so we took advantage of the special wedding pricing to enjoy a 4-night mini-moon (the resort upgraded us to an amazing 2500+ Square ft bungalow! Heaven to be at our resort already.

We planned on Europe on our one-year anniversary. I was without a job for a while so it’ll now be for our 3rd year anniversary but it still makes us giddy!!! But now we get to go for two weeks which wasn’t in our budget (or work vacation days) back then.

There's definitely no rush in having your honeymoon. It's pretty common to wait it out whether its destination or not. It would probably be best to wait and save.

We’re already spending so much on our wedding that we couldn’t afford our dream honeymoon. We were debating on having one next year instead. But we really wanted to get away just for a little bit after the wedding, so we decided to do a cheaper honeymoon in Cabo then just go somewhere nicer next year or so.

I've thought about that as well. But the destination local isn't my ideal honeymoon location so I definitely won't lol

That was a good idea. You were still able to honeymoon and plan your ideal honeymoon trip for later.

Exactly. We took two weeks off for our wedding (one week before to tour out-of-the country family who came to our wedding), and a week for our wedding and mini mon. No more PTO left.

Now, we can enjoy a stress-free, two-week honeymoon. And we have the energy to run around and explore. 🎉
