I'm in the same boat. I would love to hear what other say as well!

I would really check out Costa Rica. They have gorgeous beaches, but also the rain forest and mountains and hot springs and all sorts of other stuff.

What exactly do you mean by “a bit more exotic”?

I’ve been to the most beautiful beaches in the world and depending on your budget and where you’re coming from, I have some recommendations for you! Ie if you’re from New England, Aruba or Barbados would fit the bill. If you’re from the west coast, non-Maui Hawaii locations or islands off Australia would be more reasonable.

Hi Sam, we are going to the Big Island in Hawaii. We also got sticker shock with resort prices, but we are going to do Airbnbs the whole time and it made it more affordable. Just something to think about.


Also, in regards to the word “exotic”, this is perhaps an outdated word that historically refers to the perspective of the western world talking about non-white or non/western cultures. So best to use specific words when when describing where you want to travel to - like a different climate or a certain accommodation, etc especially since this is I believe an international forum.

I am the same way. As much as we love the beach we need adventure. I’ve been to Costa Rica before and thinking of doing it again. You can do volcano hiking, zip lining, white water rafting and also spend a few days by the beach. I’m also looking into Bali, Indonesia.
