Honeymoon in Las Vegas--Any good?

Brenda, on July 25, 2012 at 3:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

I've been searching like crazy to find something to do for a honeymoon rather than just sit around and have it pass by, when I came across a really awesome deal for a resort in Las Vegas, "The Orleans Hotel & Casino". Total for flight and stay would be $528 ($265/per person) for 3 days--which is as long as we could be gone at that point due to college starting up.

But, I digress! FH and I wouldn't want to really do the whole gambling thing (especially since I am not 21 yet) so is Las Vegas good for anything other than Gambling and Shows? Is there any thing else really cool to do there?

Any information and opinions would be nice Smiley smile

There is a lot to do in Las Vegas. That is where we are going for our honeymoon and FH and I aren't gamblers either. There are free things to see like the belagio fountains and the pirates at Treasure Island, the light show over fremont street, catch some sun and relax by the pool. It is also a ton of fun to just walk through each hotel, there is shopping, little shows, amazing decor, and other things inside of each one. New York New York has a roller coaster that starts inside the hotel. I doubt that you will be bored...we are going for 7 nights and will be happy to just walk around and explore. Check out this site for other ideas http://www.visitlasvegas.com/ that is what I have been using to help me plan things out.

Brenda - The Orleans is not on The Strip, and I think it's kind of an inconvenient location. If you're trying to save money by being off the Strip, I'd rather stay downtown, in the Fremont area, someplace like the renovated Golden Nugget. At least down there you have the (free) Fremont Street Experience at night.

Orleans is way off the strip but they do have a yummy buffet. I certainly WOULD NOT recommend staying downtown! That's the hood, IMHO and I mean I would go there for the Fremont Experience and go right on back to the Strip. Rent a car if you stay at the Orleans because you will not be able to get around.

If you are going to do your honeymoon in Vegas, I would consider staying at the Luxor or if you are really trying to save money, Excalibur is cheap. However, gambling isn't the only thing you won't be able to do there being under 21. You can't get into any of the nightclubs and some of the shows.

I send couples there all the time and I myself love it there and do not gamble; my favorite things cirque du soleil shows, grand canyon, helicopter ride down the strip, gondola ride at the venetian, lamborghini at the Palazzo; I've never booked anyone at the hotel you are staying at only the strip and Red Rock

I'm not sure I'd go there if I was under 21. I don't know if you like dancing or whatever, but a lot of the clubs are 21 . Also, downtown is GHETTO! I was down there about a year & a half ago [when we got engaged yaay!] & it's not attractive. Stay on the strip, everything is right there! Oh just a heads up & everything is expensive haha, like shows & what not ;]

The Orleans IS NOT Downtown BTW...it's on the other sides of the 15 highway where the RIO is

So instead of The Orleans, should I do Circus Circus? My aunt use to rave about how fun it is there. The trip would only be $2 more if we booked at Circus Circus so it's a definite possibility. Smiley smile Plus, it's on the strip!

I would definatlly stay at circus circus instead! Vegas is actually one of our top 5 choices to, I'm not 21 either but there's stuff to do like stratosphere, indoor skydiving, shows, and stuff out of Vegas like nature trails and stuff

If you can afford to, stay at the Cosmopolitan. That's were FH and I got engaged. Right smack dab in the middle of the strip.

We went to Las Vegas on our honeymoon, we went to The Gun Store and shot some guns (In canada its illegal to have a firearm in your house) so that was huge fun for us. Theres the Piano Bar in both New York New York and Harrah's thats AWESOME, 2 singers that play piano try to outdo each other, really fun. The Freemont Street Experience is really fun as well, you can zipline down the street for i believe $20-30.

Honestly, I would not go to Vegas if I wasn't 21. If you don't like gambling the only reason to go is to drink. There is decent shopping and there is always the pool, but you need to stay at a decent hotel.

90% of Vegas is gambling, drinking, shows, and clubs. Also, Vegas is very expensive. I recommend one of the other 1,000s of destinations in the country. Think of what you and your FH are passionate about and find a destination that makes sense. Be it sailing, hiking, arts, cars, movies, etc. etc. Most destinations have a less than $300/person solution.

Downtown is a hot mess in Vegas....... I wouldn't do that location but there is alot to do in Vegas, Since you're not 21 yet though, I don;t know if I would go that route.
