Have any of you considered Zika risk when choosing your honeymoon destination (or am I overthinking this!?)

Yes and it was one reason why I did not have a destination wedding. Look at the cdc website for the recommendations. Zika can be sexually transmitted

It definitely was something we considered and looked into. Since we aren’t going to be trying for children for at least a year my doctor said we should be good. But you’re not overthinking it. Always best to be prepared!!

No because we don't want children. If you are TTC or will be soon, definitely make it a factor in choosing where you go.

Yes, and it's a good idea to check on this if you will be ttc soon after the wedding.

We knew there was a risk with our destination and I'm about to get an IUD as an extra preventative to not conceive. We don't want to have kids for a few years, so this didn't really impact our decision for destinations.

It’s something that I’m aware of for our destination (Bahamas) but we won’t be TTC anytime soon after the wedding. The 6 month waiting period wasn’t a HM location deciding factor because of this.

Yes, but I spoke to my doctor and her suggestion was use condoms on the honeymoon and for at least 6mths after. So as long as you are safe for a minimum of 6mths, travel to zika areas shouldn't be an issue. But that's just my doctor..

Yes this was a big issue for me and my FW, as we are TTC. We picked Greece to go to (we were originally planning to go to Bali, but with Zika, it’s a no go).

Yeah we did take this into account. I’m not sure I’m going to be TTC within a year, but I have friends and family who are breastfeeding, pregnant, or will be TTC within the next year. I decided I would rather do a local wedding (for multiple reasons, but Zika being one of them). We also opted out of a lot of potential honeymoon locations due to Zika in case we decide to TTC, so we are doing Italy.

I would take it seriously if you're planning to conceive within 2 years of your honeymoon.

I absolutely considered Zika that is why we decided to go to Hawaii on our honeymoon and Bermuda for our next vacation.

We considered it briefly and talked a my doctor. We were told as long as we wait 5-6 months to TTC, we're fine. I have an IUD, so that's just staying in for at least 5-6 months. (She also mentioned she thought some of the concerns and panic was overblown and compared it to the panic about Ebola a few years ago. Zika has been around for a while, and while there are risks associated with it, people who live in those areas also have healthy children regularly.)

I went to DR for a girl's trip and didn't think twice about it!
