Honeymoon got cancelled. Postpone wedding?

Amber, on April 29, 2020 at 7:31 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 9
Hi all,
We were supposed to get married in September of this year and go on our honeymoon to Ireland right after. We just got an mail from the travel agency that any travel until after September is cancelled.
We got our money back so it’s fine but I want to get married when I can go on my honeymoon. We won’t lose out much if anything by postponing the wedding. Is anybody keeping their wedding plans or is it safer to postpone?

Our wedding was originally November 8.2020 and just to be safe we postponed to November 7,2021 sucks but we figured better safe than sorry _ we have a lot of elderly, first responders in our guest list so 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

My wedding is in Sept also. We are suppose to travel to Canada afterwards. If we can't travel we will still get married and do a weekend stateside honeymoon and reschedule the trip to Canada for a later date.

You can plan a stateside weekend trip if honeymooning is really important to you. This is just an idea.

I just don't want to reschedule my wedding. I hope everything works out to your liking.

I’m just afraid I’ll plan the small honeymoon and that and the wedding will get cancelled and just be more of a mess. This corona is a real pain.

I def understand. Just try to stay positive.

Try to find a state that is open and plan the honeymoon there. You have to be flexible in these crazy times.

Our state is opening starting tomorrow, so I'm hoping everything comes together.

We're in a similar boat. We were supposed to go to Australia for our honeymoon right after our wedding in September, but it's not looking like their travel restrictions will be lifted in time. We're postponing our international honeymoon until next year and are planning to take a few days off after the wedding for a little wine country getaway in Napa/Sonoma (if things are open then). We're still moving forward as planned with our wedding for now though!

So far our honeymoon is not cancelled, but if it is we will still get married and do a weekend getaway, potentially even in state.

We got married in October of 2019 and did a minimoon right after our wedding. We scheduled our honeymoon to Ireland for late May of this year. We chose May because the fall is Ireland's cold rainy season. Obviously, our trip has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for another time.

If I were you, I would keep your wedding date and just reschedule your honeymoon to a date when you can enjoy the weather better in Ireland! May-July are their best months.

MOST of our friends have not done honeymoons immediately after their weddings. Several have waited for years after so they could save up and have the wedding of their dreams followed by the honeymoon of their dreams. I can't prioritize things for you, but the honeymoon would be the absolute least of my concerns right now, and I would not consider postponing my nuptials just so our wedding and honeymoon could be back to back.

This is exactly how I feel. The OP actually kind of confused me because I couldn't tell if she really meant that she wanted to postpone the wedding JUST because the honeymoon was cancelled. So many here are struggling just to find a time and place to get married, and I understand the dilemma for many around decided when to postpone.

For me and everyone else I know, the wedding itself is absolutely the priority; the honeymoon is just a nice vacation. If it has to be delayed, it's not really a big deal (in the big picture!).
